SUMMARY:


  • Reporting to the Manager, Retail Sales, this position is responsible for maintaining the highest standards of retail operations and supporting the retail team to deliver exceptional sales service to visitors. The Retail Supervisor will follow the correct procedures to open and close the main Retail Store and other retail kiosks and will ensure that daily cash floats are properly prepared for the retail areas. The Retail Supervisor will perform senior cashiering duties such as voids and returns, and will help support sales associates with any issues that arise on the sales floor or on the POS. The Retail Supervisor will support the Retail Managers with merchandising duties, merchandise markdowns when required, inventory management and loss prevention. The Retail Supervisor will assume responsibility for staff and store security in the absence of supervisory personnel._

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Assumes the position of opening the main store by:

  • Opening the safe, preparing floats, activating cash registers, and unlocking/opening any doors and gates in the store;
  • Preparing and reviewing the staff schedule for the day, posting the daily sales goal, assigning duties and making any last minute changes that are required due to absent staff or other problems;
  • Reviewing the daily opening checklist to ensure all opening steps are completed;
  • Preparing the daily communication to be shared in the morning meeting with the team.

Assumes the position of closing the main store by:

  • Ensuring all customers have exited the store, all end of day procedures have been completed and doors are locked and alarm is set;
  • Completing end of day procedures on POS terminals in accordance with proper procedures;
  • Depositing daily cash in the Cash room;
  • Reviewing the daily closing checklist to ensure all closing steps are completed.

Models excellence in customer service and merchandising by:

  • Constantly evaluating environment and customers for cues, and communicating information to the manager so that the team can respond as necessary;
  • Assisting customers by providing detailed information about merchandise, locating and recommending merchandise;
  • Processing and authorizing returns, exchanges, and voids of sales transactions, often assisting staff with any issues that arise;
  • Providing change for cash drawers as needed throughout the shift;
  • Operating a sales register for cash, credit card, and debit transactions;
  • Initiating replenishment and organizing merchandise as required;
  • Assisting with remerchandising and store displays as required;
  • Preparing and maintaining store signage as required;
  • Assisting the Management team with training new employees;
  • Performing daily housekeeping duties to ensure neatness and cleanliness of the store is maintained.

Acts as a role model for other staff during the shift by:

  • Demonstrating appropriate behaviours in carrying out all tasks;
  • Dealing with difficult and/or emergency situations that occur throughout the shift, and calls for backup assistance as appropriate; examples include problem customers, theft, medical or fire emergencies, upset staff or customer, or IT issues with registers;
  • Answering a wide variety of general questions about the Aquarium, Stanley Park and the city;
  • Participating in training new staff, and contributes to creating and maintaining a positive team environment.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  • 34 years previous retail or cashiering experience;
  • 12 years previous experience in a Supervisory role.

Skills

  • Ability to supervise, monitor, coach, and develop subordinates;
  • Superior customer service skills;
  • Ability to interact with visitors in a courteous manner;
  • Ability to operate a sales register and computer;
  • Ability to manage a number of tasks simultaneously;
  • Monitoring of cash and merchandise to control theft;
  • Knowledge of the merchandise for sale;
  • Ability to work well as a leader in fastpaced, high stress environment;
  • Ability to "think on your feet" with strong decision making and problem solving skills;
  • Strong accuracy and attention to detail skills;
  • General knowledge of the Aquarium, Stanley Park, and the city of Vancouver.

Working Conditions

  • Job requires the ability to lift cash trays, stock, and merchandise
