Contract (Summer Co-Op)**Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization ("CIRO") is the national self-regulatory organization which oversees all investment dealers, mutual fund dealers and trading activity on Canada's debt and equity marketplaces.

CIRO carries out its regulatory responsibilities through setting and enforcing rules regarding the proficiency, business and financial conduct of dealer firms and their registered employees and through setting and enforcing market integrity rules regarding trading activity on Canadian equity marketplaces.


Key Responsibilities:

Updating of the Acceptable Institutions/Acceptable Counterparties ("AI/AC") list


The updating involves:

  • Obtaining the net worth information of Canadian and foreign entities based on the most recent audited financial statements
  • Classifying these Canadian and foreign entities into various categories
  • Documenting an audit trail of any changes, i.e. additions and deletions, to the previous AI/AC List
Updating of the bare trustee agreements monthly listing


The updating involves:

  • Obtaining the registration information of various investment fund managers and updating the database accordingly.
  • Performing research of various investment fund managers to determine their existence.
Any other Financial & Operations Compliance related projects as applicable


Education and Experience:


  • Preferably in second or third year of university working towards an undergraduate degree in Finance, Economics, or Accounting
  • Completion of the Canadian Securities Course would be an asset

Key Skills and Competencies:


  • Ability to access various sources for audited financial statements
  • Proficiency in MS Word
  • Excellent organizational and problem solving skills
  • Strong time management skills, including the ability to effectively prioritize
  • Ability to work independently
  • Selfmotivated and disciplined
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written
