SCOPE

Reporting to the Manager, Financial Reporting, the incumbent supports the department in the preparation of key financial reports, including but not limited to government reports, such as Annual Financial Statements, CAUBO Annual Report, SIFU Annual Report.

In addition, the incumbent contributes to the ongoing operations of the accounting department, including quarter end and year end closes, journal entry preparation and review, and balance sheets reconciliations.

The incumbent is responsible for ensuring financial data entered into the University's general ledger is accurate and complete.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Produce year end files in the preparation of the annual audit of Financial Statements and other statutory reports, as required by the University. Production of analysis & reports in support of the annual yearend audit file.
  • Produce reports and analysis in support of month end / quarterly analysis as required.
  • Ensure external and internal compliance is met during the financial reporting process. Monitor framework to ensure that University policies are followed & regulatory compliance is met related to reporting. Make recommendation in the resolution of any noncompliance issues raised.
  • Facilitate of the process to preparing key reports and earnings statements, by gathering/documenting data and reviewing reports for regulatory compliance.
  • Participate in the analysis of accounting policy issues and assess their impact on the Financial Services and other University departments
  • Monitor accounting data entered into the Financial Information System to ensure timely/accurate reporting of accounting information. Identify areas for improvements and make recommendations to Manager on appropriate corrective actions.
  • Produce yearend & SIFU audit files. Coordinate with other departments to obtain necessary information/data required by auditors.
  • Perform monthly reconciliation of general ledger accounts, as part of the monthend closing process of the University.
  • Review journal vouchers entered by departments according to established guidelines of the University
  • Perform other tasks, as required, to assist in the effective functioning of the Financial Services Department

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in Accountancy or in a field related to the primary responsibilities and one to two years of related experience in accounting.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and auditing standards, including university and nonprofit accounting practices (specifically Accounting Standards for notforprofit organizations ASNPO).
  • Good knowledge (Level 4) of spoken and written English and French in order to prepare documents for government purposes and to communicate internal policies.


Advanced knowledge of Word (in order to create complex documents), Excel (in order to work with complex spreadsheets and formulas) and database software.


  • Strong analytical skills regarding complex accounts.
  • Working knowledge of Financial Information Systems.
  • Proven exceptional analytical and research skills, as well as ability to synthesize large volumes of data.
Ability to work autonomously, prioritize and work as part of a team.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
