Salary Range:
SP2, Level 4, $72,080 - $90,100 per year.
The final compensation for this position will be determined based on individual factors, including education, qualifications, experience, and internal equity.
Geophysicist, Seismic Monitoring - HybridThe Opportunity
The Alberta Geological Survey (AGS), a branch of the Alberta Energy Regulator (AER), is currently recruiting for a seismologist to join a talented group of geoscientists and engineers within the Subsurface Geology and Geohazards team in a limited term, 12-month role.
As a seismologist, you will be a key contributor to AER/AGS efforts to detect earthquakes and induced seismicity throughout the province of Alberta, and work within a team environment to continuously improve our monitoring capabilities.
What your day-to-day will look like:
- Analyzing seismic waveform data using BRTT Antelope software to interpret and report on seismic events throughout Alberta.
- Working in the field and the office to maintain and improve AER/AGS seismic monitoring capabilities through routine maintenance activities, station upgrades, and by supporting network expansion activities.
- Working collaboratively within a project team to develop new functionality within the Antelope environment.
- Supporting the work of other geoscientists seeking to improve the collective understanding of earthquakes and induced seismicity in Alberta.
What we're looking for in you:
- Bachelor's Degree in geoscience.
- 3+ years of related industry, academia or government geoscience experience.
- Must possess a strong working knowledge of earthquake monitoring systems and seismic waveform data management.
- Experience with the installation and maintenance of seismic monitoring equipment in a field environment is preferred.
- Eligibility for registration as a Geoscientist in Training or Professional Geoscientist with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) is required.
- Pre-placement Medical is required.
- Must Possess a fully valid class 5 driver's license along with a positive driving record.
- Must be able to lift over 30 pounds.
- Required Travel: This position is expected to spend up to 20% of the time in the field.
- This role has a business requirement to work from Edmonton or Calgary. Edmonton is the preferred location.
