Work Description
The Estimator/Project Manager will lead the bidding, planning and execution of all assigned projects, from inception to completion. The Estimator/Project Manager will be responsible for estimating projects and managing the successfully bid projects.

The Estimator/Project Manager will review the contract and specifications and prepare a cost budget to be monitored throughout the project cycle.

The Estimator/Project Manager will communicate with management, customers, external engineering consultants, internal site supervisory staff, suppliers and subcontractors to ensure timely and cost-effective completion of the job.

The Estimator/Project Manager is responsible to ensure all necessary paperwork related to the job is either prepared or obtained from key stakeholders and, stored as well as communicated to others as required.

The Estimator/Project Manager is responsible for all financial aspects of the job and for communicating with management regarding any matters that can alter the schedule or results of the project.

This is a full-time permanent position with an anticipated and flexible start date of April 2023.


Major Responsibilities:

Estimating

  • Work with VP of Operations to determine what projects to bid, providing input on construction and feasibility of project.
  • Compile and organize bid closing documents for submission on closing day, including preparation of quantity takeoff and soliciting pricing from subcontractors and suppliers.
  • In conjunction with the VP of Operations and Estimator, completes a final bid submission review and oversees the final tender document submission to the client.
  • Prepare the project budget, schedule, and project execution plan and identify any potential risks to the Superintendent and Foreperson prior to the project starting and throughout its life cycle. Act in an advisory capacity to the site team when they have questions about the job.
  • Liaise with Superintendent and Foreperson on a regular basis to answer questions as required.
  • On an ongoing basis, raise potential issues and risks to VP of Operations.
  • All other duties as required.
Project Management

  • Initiate preconstruction meeting with all external parties to review contract specifications, discuss scheduling, inform the owner and consultants which subcontractors and suppliers will be used on the project, agree on monthly payment cutoff dates for submission of quantities with the consultant.
  • Promote company and legislative health and safety policies on all sites.
  • Coordinate with Health and Safety team as needed.
  • Conduct sitevisits a minimum of once a week on all projects.
  • Prepare CCDC contracts for subcontractors and purchase orders in suppliers.
  • Request locates for utilities through the Office Manager, and monitor they are current.
  • Review shop drawings and submissions from suppliers and subcontractors submit to consultant for review and track shop drawings updating versions for the site teams as changes occur and are approved.
  • Schedule labour and equipment as per project needs in collaboration with Superintendent and Foreperson.
  • Ensure proper documentation is maintained on site as required. This includes permits, locates, emergency response plans, drawings and any other as needed.
  • Ensure that contract deadlines are met with respect to notification of intent to claim for extra work.
  • Visit jobsite as required in order to review progress, quality control and scope compliance to the contract compared to budget/schedule with respect to production.
  • Submit the progress payment certificate (PPC) to accounting along with all related subcontractor invoices and payment information so that it may be processed and submitted on a timely basis to customers and subcontractors.
  • Approve of all costs related to the job, ensuring appropriate cost coding in accordance with the budget and purchase orders.
  • Perform inspections and reporting as required.
  • Each month review the job's financial status as compared to budget, projecting costs to completion based upon knowledge of the job status regarding production and other relevant conditions which may result in either increased or decreased profit.
