Description

Reporting to the Manager of Infection Prevention and Control, the Infection Control Practitioner (ICP) will perform duties and responsibilities in accordance with the mission, vision and goals of Infection Prevention and Control program for Niagara Health.

The ICP works closely with the patient care programs and support services in the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of infection prevention & control practices and strategies in place, in alignment with best practice standards and guidelines.


QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Degree in health sciences or regulated healthcare professional.
  • Minimum three years experience working in Infection Prevention and Control in hospital settings
  • Successful completion or enrollment in infection prevention and control course endorsed by IPAC-Canada.
  • Certified in IPAC through Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology (CBIC) or commitment to write towards certification within one year of hire
  • Experienced in conducting investigation, infection surveillance, outbreak management and provide education across the healthcare continuum.
  • Working knowledge of microbiology, infectious diseases, epidemiology, facility design/construction/renovation, cleaning and disinfection, reprocessing, occupational health and safety and adult education principles.
  • Familiarity with IPAC guidelines, Accreditation and CSA standards, and applicable regulations.

Able to work independently requiring mínimal supervision, shows initiative and self-directed while possessing the ability to work in a collaborative manner.


  • Excellent verbal and communication skills
  • Consistent and regular attendance required
  • Proficiency in both official languages (English & French) will be considered an asset
  • Vaccines (COVID19 and others) are a new hire requirement of the job unless you have an exemption based on medical or on a ground pursuant to the Ontario Human Rights Code
