_Ray of Hope is currently seeking a Full-Time Cook to come join our team"_

Overview:

The Full-Time Cook is responsible for the preparation of high-quality food according to schedule and in a sanitary manner.

The Full-Time Cook will experience a fast-paced, high-pressure work environment, while maintaining the organizational ability to identify and act on job duties quickly and efficiently.

The work location for this position is a Secure Custody facility for male youth who are in conflict with the law.

As such, safety, and security protocol is essential to the success of Kitchen Services.

The Full-Time Cook position functions in a team environment, displays professional and excellent service to young persons and staff and follows safety protocol in equipment operations of high temperatures and lifting heavy food materials.

The Full-Time Cook will also have inventory, ordering and sanitation protocols according to Region of Waterloo Public Health.


This is a Permanent, Full-Time position.

The schedule is Wednesday - Friday from 7:30am - 5:30pm and Saturday 8:00am - 6:00 pm.

A car is required for this position.

General Program Responsibilities:


  • Participate in and ensure food preparation and services meets and exceeds Ray of Hope, Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services (MCCSS), and Region of Waterloo Public Health requirements daily
  • Clean, organize and maintain kitchen areas
  • Develop a rotating menu that can take into consideration cultural, religious, and dietary restrictions.
  • Receive food and product deliveries, using appropriate rotation method and ensure quality of food and product received is up to standards of ROW Public Health
  • Ensure refrigerators and storerooms are organized and maintained and all food products are stored in accordance with required standards of ROW Public Health
  • Work collaboratively with other Kitchen Services Staff
  • Implement new routines, procedures, and policies as directed, to ensure safe food handling and health and safety procedures are followed at all times
  • Complete reports and other documentation as required ensuring compliance with ROW Public Health Standards as well as MCCSS licensing requirements
  • Participate in training as required
  • Other duties as may be assigned from time to time

Qualifications:


Education:


  • High School Diploma or equivalent

Experience:


  • Minimum 2 years culinary experience
  • Thorough knowledge of practices and techniques of food service operations
  • Knowledge of and experience with menu planning and restrictive diets

Certifications:


  • Safe Food Handling Certified
  • Standard First Aid Level-C CPR & AED or willingness to obtain prior to employment

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities to be successful in this position:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of food trends, quality, production, sanitation, food cost controls and presentation.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of creating balanced meals, following Canada's Food Guide
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, and Excel)
  • Basic knowledge of internet and search engine use
  • Proficient in reading, writing, speaking and comprehension in the English language

Requirements:


  • Vulnerable Sector Check/Police Check
  • Valid, unrestricted Class "G" Driver's licence
  • Ministry of Transportation Drivers Abstract
  • Pre-Employment Health Assessment Form including immunization record and fitness assessment

Physical Demands:


  • Ability to stand for long periods of time
  • Occasional environmental exposure to cold, heat, and water
  • Mental effort required for driving, schedule management and working under pressure
  • Ability to lift up to 35lbs, with or without use of cart or a regular basis
  • Manual dexterity required for use of kitchen tools and appliances
  • Occasional weekends may be required (with notice) to accommodate program needs
  • The Kitchen staff will be in contact with young men who are in conflict with the law and who may display volatile and verbally and physically aggressive behaviours
  • The Kitchen staff will have daily contact with staff that works within the facility (i.e., management, youth care workers, professionals) and other employees as well as young men who are in conflict with the law. May have contact with the Region of Waterloo Health Inspector Unit as well as Independent Contractors
