- Training/education in the principles of arboriculture;
- Knowledge/interest in urban forestry, ecology, and/or natural sciences;
- Valid Chainsaw operator's certification and training;

Seasonal Forestry Assistant

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
To support the urban forestry program with the main focus on tree inventory, tree removal, tree maintenance and tree planting projects.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Supervisor, Forestry Services
DIRECTION EXERCISED:
None
WORKING PROCEDURES:
- Assists the Arborist with the inspection of existing trees on Town road rightofways, parks and natural areas and managing service requests.
- Operates a chainsaw, hauls brush and operates a chipper, performs pruning, planting and general tree maintenance
- Participates in the Town's Health & Safety Program and complies with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, other applicable legislation and best practices.
- Maintains knowledge of and adheres to all Town of Georgina Policies and Procedures.
- Participates in ongoing Training and Development and ensures all mandatory requirements are met and maintained.

SKILL/KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:
- Training/education in the principles of arboriculture;
- Knowledge/interest in urban forestry, ecology, and/or natural sciences;
- Ability to work in a natural environment;
- Must be proficient with computers and software;
- Valid Chainsaw operator's certification and training;
- Willing to work outdoors in inclement weather;
- Ability to perform physically intensive work;
- Must possess a valid class G driver's license and a clear Driver's Abstract;
- Class D driver's license an asset
