The Security Specialist is responsible for providing direct support to police and civilian members on matters related to security and security training.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Identifying security issues, and preparing security audit reports and assessments
- Programming of the security system
- Coordinate security clearance checks on outside service providers; authorize new and replacement prox cards coordinating with photo lab, Record Clearances, building maintenance, Criminal Intelligence Unit Coordinate with outside security service providers
- Assist the Department Security Officer in developing a strategic overview of the Department security profile and respond to changes and demands in the following areas: procedural administrative, security, and physical security
- Manage and oversee facilities related issues, including developing and maintaining trades/contractors, manage projects, oversee budgets, adhere to existing programs and policies (i.e. procurement, recycling, safety, etc.)
- Other related duties and responsibilities as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Required:
- Specialized security training and/or knowledge in alarm system programming (i.e. Keyscan)
- Considerable knowledge of security functions, regulations, and procedures
- Maintenance and development of an extensive network of contacts and sources of information, relevant to departmental security issues
- Project management experience
- Knowledge of hazmat training, workplace safety, and awareness
- Considerable knowledge of risk management and relevant programs.
- Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to multitask efficiently and effectively in a multiproject environment
- Demonstrated ability to excel in a team environment and develop effective working relationship with all levels, both internal and external
- Strong administrative skills, with the ability to compile, maintain, and control a variety of records, reports, and files
- High level of selfmotivation and initiative, including the identification of innovative and creative solutions, and potential strategies for addressing security issues
- Superior interpersonal and communication skills (written/oral and public speaking skills)
- Demonstrated ability to learn and adapt to new systems and technology
- Ability to assist with other Facilities' projects as assigned
Preferred:
EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of ten years' experience in a facilities position, and a minimum of two years' supervisory experience
EDUCATION
- Completion of Grade 12 supplemented by computer courses including Microsoft Word and Excel, and SAP
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Valid BC Driver's licence
- All employees must maintain their enhanced security clearance while employed with the Vancouver Police Department, which will be renewed every five years or as required
- Be accessible after hours
