Our Team
Our Newfoundland and Labrador Operations are an integrated mining, milling, and processing operation.

Nickel concentrate from the fly-in, fly-out Voisey's Bay operation is shipped to our state-of-art Long Harbour Processing Plant where it is refined into low-carbon and high-purity nickel rounds, cobalt rounds and copper cathodes.

The Learning & Development team supports our stakeholders by providing onboarding, functional training, and safety training opportunities.

We also work to develop new apprentices and support a Mine Beginner Program and JRTP to engage our local communities and bring in talent we can train to do the work required in our operations.


The Opportunity

  • Vale recognizes the Impacts and Benefits Agreements with the Innu Nation and the Nunatsiavut Government in which Innu and Inuit workers have first preference for employment at the Voisey's Bay Mine Site. This is guided by an adjacency principle that first gives preference to those who live on the coast of Labrador, followed by those residing in the rest of Labrador, those residing on the island of the province, followed by the rest of Canada._

_ Next, priority will be given to Newfoundland and Labrador residents. We also welcome those who are willing to relocate back home and those looking to make NL their permanent home._
We are currently seeking
two (2) Safety Trainers to join our
Learning & Development department in
Voisey's Bay, NL. _These are_
_ fixed-term positions __based at the_
_ Voisey's Bay mine site in Labrador, a fly-in fly-out operation. These positions are on a two week on, two week off rotation._


In supporting the implementation and maintenance of the Safety, Health and Environmental Management System, the safety trainer will lead the delivery of all safety training for the business.

Safety training programs necessary to support the business are derived from sound principles of risk management and are based on site specific requirements, expectations of the Vale Global Health and Safety business unit, and provincial/federal legislation.

By ensuring effective delivery of safety training programs for the operation, the safety trainer is integral in supporting the development of employee knowledge and skills which are vital to sound risk management in daily work activities.

In support of site safety training requirements, the safety trainer role will deliver safety training to all site personnel, including applicable orientation programs, company specific training and regulatory training.

They will assist in the development, review and revision of safety training programs and provide field instruction and competency evaluations as necessary to support applicable training programs.

The safety trainer will liaise with operational departments to optimize delivery of training, maximizing values of time and resources.

They will also maintain required trainer certifications necessary to deliver safety training programs and keep current with legislation and industry best practice in support of safety training program continuous improvement.

The safety trainer will provide feedback as necessary, to respective departments, on individual performance noted during the delivery of safety training programs and provide advice and support in the field as necessary to support the implementation of safety training programs where practical instruction is necessary to support classroom theory.


Additionally, in this position, you will:

  • Lead by Example
  • Provide technical safety support and information to site personnel.
  • Support the development and implementation of corrective actions to prevent, eliminate, control or reduce occupational health and safety problems.
  • Ensure compliance of learning materials with company programs and provincial occupational safety regulations.
  • Schedules and delivers safe and effective training in a timely manner.
  • Identify facility safety training needs and assist in developing safety training programs.
  • Support mine site personnel in selection of appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Mentors and coaches employees in the safe, effective and productive mining operations.
  • Provide followup and Refresher training to employees in their area of work/job
