    VIA Rail Canada Inc., Canada's national passenger rail service, is currently seeking candidates to fill 1 Diesel Engine Mechanic position, to work at its Winnipeg Maintenance Center.

    As a Diesel Engine Mechanic, you will carry out preventive maintenance and running repairs on locomotives and rolling stock.

    You will be utilizing your skills, Via Rail Standards, maintenance manuals and tools, to determine the causes of mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic defects on the locomotives and perform the repair.

    You will also conduct inspections and maintenance on the locomotives in compliance with VIA's preventive maintenance program in order to continually surpass Transport Canada's standards.

    The position is permanent (40 hours per week) and the work schedule may vary (day, evening, night, week-end and holidays).

    Shifts may start as early as 7:00 am and end as late as 3:00 am. The Maintenance center is closed Friday and Saturday.

    $ $/h


    • Evening and night shift differentials: $1.50 and $2.00 per hour, respectively
    • $1/H red seal premium

    • PPE (boots, glasses, helmet, vest, gloves), tools and uniforms are provided.

    Free parking Requirements :

    • Vocational diploma in heavy duty mechanics or Diesel Mechanics
    • Inter Provincial certificate in mechanics (Red Seal)
    • Minimum of five years of experience in heavy duty mechanics, three of which are in diesel engine mechanical maintenance.
    • Excellent leadership and teamwork skills
    • Knowledge of air brakes
    • 5+ years Railway experience (asset)
    • Qualified in First Aid (asset)
