    About this role

    We are seeking a highly skilled Test Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a robust background in power electronics and experience with power converters. The primary responsibilities will include testing, evaluating, and validating UPS and other Socomec power conversion products to ensure they meet industry standards and performance specifications. This role will also provide training to test and field service technicians as required.

    Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

    • Test Planning and Execution: Develop and execute comprehensive test plans for high-power UPS systems (around 2MVA), including functional, performance, and reliability testing. Ensure tests cover all necessary specifications and standards;
    • Functional Testing: Ensure that the UPS system functions correctly according to its design specifications. This involves testing various operational modes such as normal mode, bypass mode, and battery backup mode;
    • Performance Testing: Conduct performance tests to validate the efficiency, load capacity, and operational stability of UPS systems. This includes testing under various conditions such as different load scenarios, temperature variations, and voltage/frequency disturbances;
    • Compliance Testing: Ensure UPS systems comply with relevant industry standards, including UL1778, FCC Part 15, and IEC Document and report compliance test results;
    • Troubleshooting and Issue Resolution: Investigate and troubleshoot any issues encountered during testing. Identify root causes and work with design and engineering teams to develop and implement effective solutions;
    • Safety Testing: Verify that the system complies with safety standards and regulations, including electrical safety, fire safety, and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) requirements;
    • Documentation: Prepare detailed test reports, including methodologies, results, and any identified issues or deviations. Provide clear and concise documentation for internal and external stakeholders;
    • Continuous Improvement: Stay updated on the latest trends and advancements in UPS technology and testing methodologies. Implement best practices to enhance testing processes and improve product quality;
    • Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including design, engineering, and quality assurance, to ensure thorough testing and validation of UPS products;
    • Customer Communication: Communicate with customers to provide required customized test reports;
    • Customer Support: Provide input for customer support, including resolving technical issues and offering guidance on product use.

    Essential Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills

    • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering;
    • Minimum 5 years of experience in compliance/certification of new energy storage/power conversion products;
    • Experience with EMI troubleshooting;
    • Proven experience in testing and validating power electronics, particularly UPS systems;
    • Strong understanding of industry standards and compliance requirements for UPS systems;
    • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex issues effectively;
    • Strong documentation and communication skills;
    • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and manage multiple tasks simultaneously;
    • Ability to travel to international destinations and maintain a valid passport for international travel.

    Working Conditions:

    • This role is located in an office environment, with regular visits to the manufacturing environment;
    • Must be available for possible business travel to locations in Canada, USA and Europe.
