About the Role


Reporting to the VP, Head of Investor Relations and Capital Markets, this role is accountable for developing key external messages for Sun Life relating to quarterly and annual financial results.

This role will also support the digitization of financial information and the transformation of our reporting process through investments in technology and will be responsible to deliver new insights on shareholder value creation from this investment.


Position Purpose

  • Oversight of our external disclosures (MD&A, Earnings news release and other external documents) to ensure consistency of key messaging, regulatory compliance, and best practices
  • Provide analytical insights about the company's results and develop compelling and clear messaging to the investor community, while simplifying complex technical topics
  • Translate internal business drivers and messages into appropriate external disclosures taking into consideration the needs of external stakeholders including SEC, OSC, OSFI and IFRS requirements
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of Management's Discussion & Analysis, including OSC continuous disclosure requirements
  • Perform Peer benchmarking analyses resulting in recommended improvements to be discussed and presented to the Disclosure Committee for consideration
  • Act as a reporting advisory contact for all areas of the organization
  • Develop exceptional relationships with Business Group leaders, Legal, Corporate Finance and Corporate Capital to ensure that the appropriate financial messages are presented to external stakeholders.
  • Build consensus across all levels on recommended changes to external disclosures
  • Lead special projects and strategic initiatives to improve business processes within the reporting cycle or enhancements to our key metrics and narrative.
  • Transition internal and external reporting materials to reflect changes relating to the adoption of IFRS 17/9; collaborate with the IR team in building the IFRS 17/9 narrative and messaging
  • Transform the close process by leveraging the forecast to establish key themes and messages before the start of the quarter
  • Enhance the operational components of the reporting cycle by leveraging new technologies to streamline processes within our data architecture. Continuously improve business processes around the use of digital tools, and maintain controls over the data collection process from various teams throughout the organization.
  • Support ESG/Sustainability reporting initiatives, including advising on and implementing regulatory disclosure changes on climate to our external disclosures

What you'll need to succeed:


  • CPA, CA with 10 to 15+ years of Insurance or Financial Services industry experience;
  • Strong leadership skills with an ability to work across multiple functions and business groups
  • Experience and strong knowledge of SEC, OSC, OSFI and IFRS requirements for external disclosures
  • Connects the big picture, understands the business and manages complexity across deliverables;
