Here's what you'll be doing....

You're responsible for supervision of hourly warehouse staff to ensure that warehouse activities are undertaken safely, efficiently and productively.

You'll communicate with front office staff (Customer Service, Client Service, Finance and Management) as needed to carry out warehouse tasks effectively.

You'll also be responsible for building maintenance and advising your supervisor of repair/maintenance needs.

Normal working hours: 6am-2:30pm Monday

  • Friday. The position may be required to be flexible with hours depending on any scheduled absences of the Warehouse Manager.

Key Responsibilities include:
Management

  • Oversee all warehouse activity of hourly staff in the absence of the Warehouse Manager
  • Perform warehouse tasks such as order release and inventory management
  • Motivate staff by a visible presence on the warehouse floor and regular meetings
  • Make recommendations aimed at improving staff effectiveness
  • Participate in supervising the annual inventory count
  • Follow up on customer penalties (Amazon, Indigo) related to warehouse performance
  • Manage biweekly payroll records
  • Maintain a safe work environment
  • May be required to perform other system related tasks such as Amazon order cancellations, (Electronic Data Interchange) EDI error correction, Ecommerce error correction, order consolidation
Facility Maintenance

  • Assess maintenance requirements and communicate to supervisor
  • Assist with fire drill and safety related compliance

Education, Qualifications, and Experience:

  • High school graduate
  • 12 years' warehouse supervisory experience
  • Experience using a warehouse management system
  • Qualified to operate standard warehouse equipment
  • Previously completed health and safety training courses an asset

Knowledge, Skills, and Attributes:

  • Knowledge of warehouse operations
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Knowledge of fire safety best practices
  • General knowledge of building maintenance: plumbing, electrical, painting, HVAC
  • Organizational ability and attention to detail
  • Ability to move/handle product up to 40 lbs

About our Team:


The Distribution Division is based at 5201 Dufferin Street, in Toronto and provides shipping, receiving and storage for the University of Toronto Press and approximately 40 independent publishers.

Normal operations for the facility is 16 hours a day, 6 days a week, and is staffed by more than 100 full and part-time, warehouse and office employees.
