    Coordinator, Youth Justice Committee (YJC)

    Associated Youth Services of Peel (AYSP) is an accredited, not-for-profit charitable organization, supporting children, youth and families with mental health and/or youth justice issues. Working together with our service partners, using a multi-systems perspective, AYSP provides services that are evidence-based and evidence-informed.

    We are currently seeking a Coordinatorto join our Youth Justice Committee (YJC) team. The YJC Program, an alternative to formal court proceedings, meets in-person and/or virtually with persons harmed, accused young people and their parents/caregivers to negotiate an appropriate way for the young person to make amends for their actions.

    Job Type: Permanent Part-time

    Location: Head office in Peel Region, with requirements to travel

    Union Affiliation: OPSEU Local 592

    Hours of Work: 28 hours a week (Days & Evenings)

    Responsibilities:

    • Meet in-person and/or virtually with persons harmed, accused young people and their parents/caregivers
    • Receive and provide oversight for referrals from the Ontario Court of Justice and Local Police Services for the Youth Justice Committee and ensure eligibility requirements have been met
    • Provide alternative, community-based responses to deal more effectively with young people aged 12-17 years, at the time of the offence, who are in contact with the Youth Court and/or Police and be familiar with the philosophy of Restorative Justice
    • Monitor client progress in the program and ensure court/police notification of outcomes
    • Advocate for and refer youth to additional supports when necessary
    • Develop and maintain strong community partnerships with external community resources in the community being served
    • Maintain professional documentation, in the form of intakes, progress reports, discharge summaries, statistical information and case notes
    • Develop new and innovative program sanctions to address the changing needs of clients and the program
    • Assist in the recruitment, training, supervision and recognition of all volunteers within the YJC Program and ensure an adequate number of volunteers are available to facilitate restorative justice circles in assigned region
    • Work flexible hours related to the needs of the program and clients, evening work will be required
    • Travel, as required

    Qualifications and Experience:

    • Bachelor's Degree or a degree in a related field
    • Experience working in the youth justice sector will be considered an asset
    • Possess an understanding of youth justice sector and services available to assist with improved functioning of positive and social behaviour
    • Experience and working knowledge of youth engagement strategies for youth in conflict with law, case management, interviewing and assessment skills
    • Knowledge of the philosophy of Restorative Justice, the Youth Criminal Justice Act and the Child, Youth and Family Services Act
    • Fluency in French or other languages is considered an asset

    Salary Range: $45,870 - $55,699; pro-rated to 0.8 FTE which is $36,696 - $44,559
