PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:
A. New Student Onboarding 40%

B. New Student Onboarding 55%

Reporting to the Manager, Student Life Operations, the Student Life Coordinator, Sault Ste.
Marie is responsible for working in a collaborative environment for the delivery of the Sault Ste.
Marie-based Student Life programming.

Programming includes, but is not limited to, new student orientation, student events, student volunteer coordination, and student life programming celebrating the diversity of our student population.

This position plays a key role in developing and coordinating an engaging and supportive experience for students attending the Sault Ste.

Marie campus.

This position will be front line student centric and service based. Please note the expected hours for this position will be based on a 35-hour workweek, but will be non-regular to

accommodate service to students, events, etc.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

A. New Student Onboarding (40%)

  • Acting member of the Orientation Planning Team, and participate in all orientation planning meetings (beginning 2.5 months from orientation start date).
  • Create orientation information modules with Sault Ste. Marie specific information.
  • Play a lead role in the development of new Orientation modules.
  • Schedule and lead online and inperson Q&A sessions for new Sault Ste. Marie students.
  • Participate in Question & Answer sessions relevant for Sault Ste. Marie students
(e.g. immigration, remote learning).

  • Research and book spaces needed for in person orientation.
  • Coordinate supply deliveries for orientation including food, orientation packages, and any other needed supplies for sessions.
  • Work with the Manager, Student Life Operations and the Orientation Planning Team to build the schedule for orientation for Sault Ste. Marie students.
  • Facilitator of Orientation for Sault Ste. Marie students on Orientation days.
  • Recruit and coordinate Student Leader Volunteers for Orientation activities.

B. Student Life Programming (55%)

  • Communicate regularly with the Manager, Student Life Operations to provide feedback on the campus experience in Sault Ste. Marie.
  • Provide support to the Algoma University Students' Union (AUSU) and the
Shingwauk Anishinaabe Students' Association (SASA) representatives in Sault Ste.
Marie.

  • Organize, implement and monitor student life programming, activities, and other events to enhance student life and promote retention.
  • Coordinate logistics for on campus student events.
  • Organize student volunteers for Student Life events.
  • Act as front line customer service to students.
  • Engage with students regularly to ensure a positive student experience.
  • Develop opportunities to receive and measure feedback from program participants
  • Recommend and coordinate appropriate equipment needs for programs and ensure that all equipment meets health and safety standards.
  • Work with the Communications & Marketing team to manage social media and other communication tools to promote student life activities.

C. Administration/ Other Duties (5%)

  • Provide updates to the university website as required.
  • Responsible for budget tracking outlined by supervisors.
  • Participate on internal and external committees as required.
  • Participate on community committees as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Undergraduate degree in any field, and a minimum of two (2) years experience providing postsecondary student services, is required.
  • One (1) certification in Mental Health response training (nonviolent crisis intervention training, ASIST, MHFA, SafeTalk, or equivalent) required.
  • CPR/First Aid certification required.
  • Familiarity with Algoma University programs is an asset.
  • Excellent verbal, written, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Exceptional crosscultural communication skills.
  • Computer proficiency; familiarity with G suite and student information systems preferred.
