The Corix team has an opportunity for a
4th Class Power Engineer for the role of
District Energy Utility Operator Burnaby, BC.

The District Energy Utility Operator is responsible for performing the preventative, corrective, predictive maintenance activities as well as operating and monitoring system performance at the various district energy utility operations in the Lower Mainland including our Biomass facility in Burnaby BC.

This position reports directly to the Lower Mainland Area Supervisor and will collaborate with them and the Area Manager to maximize utility availability and reliability, customer satisfaction and increase operational excellence.

What You'll Do

  • Maintain, monitor, adjust and control the process flow of various district energy systems to ensure safe and efficient operation and compliance with internal safety requirements, contractual obligations and external regulations.
  • Operate, inspect and service equipment in all district energy facilities, underground distribution piping and energy transfer stations at multiple sites, performing repairs, preventative and corrective maintenance as required.
  • Monitor and evaluate plant(s) operation and systems performance against performance objectives, investigating and undertaking corrective action where necessary. Make recommendations for system optimization.
  • Responsible for all health & safety at the assigned site(s), including other employees, contractors and visitors to our sites, conducting site inspections and hazard assessments as per policy, and taking corrective actions to ensure safe and reliable operations.
  • Participate in Site Hazard Assessments, Job Hazard Assessments, Field Level Hazard Assessments and site inspections and the development of safety documentation such as OERPs, SJP, SWPs, ERP and SOPs
  • Regularly monitor all equipment relating to district energy utility systems in our service area on site and via the SCADA system to ensure equipment is working as intended
  • Performs preventative maintenance as scheduled.
  • Identify and report performance issues and take corrective action to prevent injuries, financial loss, reduction in utility availability/reliability and system failure
  • Troubleshoot and perform required repairs on all site equipment to ensure safe and optimal operation.
  • Enter detailed maintenance logs and records into the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS)

Compensation
$75,000 - $106,000 yearly salary


What you bring
Experience

  • Two years' experience maintaining and troubleshooting mechanical equipment including boilers, cooling towers, chillers, pumps, valves, piping and fittings.
Education, Certificates and Licenses

  • 4th Class Power Engineer
  • The musthaves include a valid Class 5 driver's license and First Aid and Confined Space Awareness certifications.
Nice to Have

  • HVAC system experience an asset
  • Valid driver's license; must be able to provide driver's abstract.
  • SCADA and HMI experience an asset
  • Controls and instrumentation experience an asset
Knowledge, Skills, and abilities

  • Ability to frequently perform moderate to heavy physical demands, including lifting (50 lbs.), standing for long periods of time, and climbing.
  • May work at heights, in confined spaces, and in inclement weather conditions.

  • Rotating shifts(12 hours, 4 Days on and 4 Days off)
  • Participate in oncall and scheduled overtime rotation.
  • Work in plant and field environments.
  • Exposure to water, chemicals, hazardous materials, and noise.
