Overview:


The people in this position are responsible for providing day-to-day support for Linux and windows systems, storage, and servers within a large virtual and a multi-petabyte storage environment.

Each person participates in a progressive range of activities encompassing the design, installation, and maintenance of these environments.


Responsibilities:


  • Microsoft System Administration and support (Windows server and System Center Configuration Manager)
  • Assisting with Linux System Administration and support
  • Storage Administration and support (Netapp and Nexenta)
  • Contribute to the support of the virtualization environments (VMWare and HyperV)
  • Contribute to developing automation process to help streamline operations and procedures (Saltstack or Ansible)
  • Proactively monitor for potential issues and make recommendations for remediation
  • Contribute to the support of the physical server infrastructure
  • Contribute to the operation of our data centre's including
  • Deploying servers (virtual/physical) to support client requirements
  • Perform hardware and software diagnostic testing
  • Configure, test, and maintain hardware and software
  • Diagnose reported problems and complete repairs appropriately
  • Install upgrades to system components
  • Support and maintain our server backup solution (software and hardware)
  • Occasional work outside regular business hours (oncall rotation and scheduled tasks)
  • Supporting cloud environments connected to our data centre

Qualifications:

  • University degree or equivalent combination of education and/or experience
  • 3 or more years' experience working as a Microsoft systems administrator including building supporting servers
  • Experience in designing, installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting a large storage environment is a strong asset
  • Storage administration experience is a strong asset
  • Experience in designing, installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting a large virtual environment is a strong asset
  • Demonstrated experience with HyperV or VMware is a strong asset
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal, customer service, communication (oral and written), problem solving, analytical, and time management skills
  • Outstanding deductive and investigative skills with the ability to identify and diagnose complex, nonintuitive technical problems as well as demonstrated ability to interact with a wide variety of clients under stressful conditions is an asset
  • Must be able to document and follow procedures
  • Must have excellent customer service skills
  • Must be willing to undergo a Government of Canada Security Screening
  • Ability to work independently or as a team
  • Ability to learn and execute new skills
  • Must have a valid G driver's license
  • Must be able to lift and carry (upto 50lbs), work at a desk, and on a ladder
