Overview

The Purchasing Manager will be responsible for efficient and proactive Inventory Management, Customer need fulfillment, Product Master costing maintenance and leadership of the Purchasing Team across all Independent Mechanical Supply locations.

The Purchasing Manager will assure customer satisfaction, maintain quality standards, and ensure productivity among staff.

The Purchasing Manager will also endeavor to support the profitable growth of the Company through ongoing product costing exercises, vendor negotiations and improved product movement efficiencies.


Responsibilities:


Core Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the Vice President the duties and responsibilities of the Purchasing Manager, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Ensure overall efficiency, productivity and balance workload of the Purchasing Team;
  • Oversee and guide the daytoday operations of Purchasing Team, including: stock replenishment, quick sourcing of customer backorders, assisting Returns Department with VRA support when needed;
  • Working with the Vice President actively develop and maintain key business relationships with suppliers to foster a strong relationship offering a win/win scenario for Independent/supplier partners;
  • Ongoing analysis of product sales to continually improve on inventory levels, in coordination with branch managers when needed;
  • Ensure expediting is keeping purchase order ETA dates up to date working with vendors to improve on lead times, working with buyers to find alternate product sources when required and advising inside sales staff of potential problems proactively;
  • Establish and maintain a costing maintenance calendar, to track previous and pending product line cost changes, to be visible by other staff;
  • Develop a vendor scorecard model that can be used to determine vendor efficiency, costing, lead times, fillrates and other quantitative measures;
  • Hire, train, develop team with ongoing performance reviews;
  • Oversee, train, establish new Data Supervisor position. Transferring existing product master maintenance roll, data management as well as report running using existing tools and working to help develop additional tools;
  • When required escalate vendor issues requiring management attention (i.e. vendor shipping errors, pricing problems, unnecessary shipment delays, pick up delays, packaging issues, etc) ;
  • Lead with a handson people focused approached towards staff development, coaching, communication, improvement and team building, while holding them accountable;
  • Ensure the Purchasing Team performance meets and exceeds the commitment of our service promise to customers;
  • Actively participate in interdepartmental/managers' meetings; helping develop and advancing agenda items for ongoing enhancement of our business processes;
  • Foster a safe and nonabusive work environment of empowerment, accountability, respect, consideration, open honest interaction, with full participation in team meetings and activities with a winning attitude;
  • Foster collaborative/problem solving demeanor amongst departments when required;
  • Develop with team, continuous improvement ideas, assess for feasibility, implement changes and monitor for adjustments;
  • Be responsible for departmental expense control including headcount/payroll dollars, required equipment;
  • Maintain personal knowledge and ensure Purchasing Department participates in WHMIS and other required government legislation training;
  • Work with senior management to develop quantitative reporting to measure KPI in relevant areas of the business connected to procurement;
  • Manage staff scheduling/vacations and tracking of all time off, ensuring adequate coverage;
