Responsibilities:


  • Conduct studies on a wide variety of community planning issues, with a focus on social planning and housing
  • Draft bylaws, amendments and consolidations that address the changing needs of the municipality
  • Supervise the work of technical and/or professional staff engaged in community and policy planning projects
  • Attend meetings and represent the department in a professional capacity to provide professional expertise, explain policies and receive public input
  • Maintain liaison with various internal and external contacts concerned with social and community planning, and attend related internal/external meetings
  • Interpret plans, strategies and bylaws and answers a variety of internal and public inquiries regarding land use or related matters
  • Perform related work as required

Qualifications:


  • University graduation in an appropriate discipline, plus a post graduate degree in Community or Regional Planning, plus sound related experience in urban planning; or an equivalent combi¬nation of training and experience
  • Considerable knowledge of the policies, rules, regulations, bylaws, objectives, and legislation governing the Community Development Division operations
  • Sound knowledge of analytical and research techniques and methodology of the current trends in municipal planning
  • Considerable knowledge of economics, municipal finances and sociology as applied to urban planning
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective communication with internal/external contacts and applicable authorities
  • Ability to assess the community impact of strategic and social policy planning initiatives and projects, and draft bylaws/amendments suitable to the needs of the community and as established by Council
  • Credentials with the International Association for Public Participation (IAP2) is considered an asset
  • Membership or eligibility for membership in the Planning Institute of British Columbia
The CUPE rate of pay for this position is $ $61.99 per hour (5 steps, 2023 rates) plus benefits. The hours of work are Monday to Friday 8:30am - 4:30pm.
