We are looking for a Technical Officer, Pneumatic and Hydraulic Pressure to support our Mass and Related Quantities team within the Metrology Research Centre.

The Metrology Research Centre is Canada's National Metrology Institute and as such is responsible for the realization and dissemination of the units of measurement within the SI system, supporting agreement in measurement across the globe and enabling international trade.

The Mass and Related Quantities team provides realization and dissemination of Mass and quantities related to it such as pressure.

The Mass and Related Quantities team operates a world class pressure facility from 5 kPa up to 100 MPa and is capable of realizing the Pascal to 5 ppm uncertainty at atmospheric pressure.


The Technical Officer provides technical support (electrical, electronic, computer, mechanical, organizational, and other), and systems oversight in projects and in operations of the Mass and Related Quantities team (MRQ).


You will:

  • Work with clients and other team members to perform measurements and develop and/or improve measurement capability at the leading edge of what is technically and physically possible;
  • Develop and maintain computer interfacing and programs to communicate with electronic equipment and data acquisition systems;
  • Support Canadian industry and innovation by calibrating and validating internal and external client equipment;
  • Help design, construct and maintain custom electronic and mechanical equipment for scientific and measurement apparatus;
  • Acquire and analyze data, report results and keep records.

Screening Criteria:


Education:

Bachelor's degree in physics, engineering physics, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, nano engineering or equivalent.

An equivalent combination of experience and education, including relevant college diplomas may also be considered.

Experience:


  • Experience working in a laboratory setting and with equipment found in physics or physical engineering labs, such as oscilloscopes, power supplies, data acquisition systems, vacuum systems, high pressure and pressurized systems weighing systems;
  • Experience in general programming and computer interfacing and control of instruments by computer;
  • Experience planning and executing basic experiments, analyzing data, communicating results orally and in writing;
  • Experience working independently and in teams on simultaneous projects; and
  • Experience in mechanics and mechanical design.

Experience in the following will be considered as an asset:

  • Experience with LabView, Python and MATLAB;
  • Experience in electronics including design, layout, part specification, PCB creation, testing and troubleshooting;
  • Experience with quality systems (for example ISO

Compensation:

From $58,445 to $80,040 per annum.
