We are looking for a Claims Counsel for our Edmonton Office

The primary purpose of this position is to ensure our clients and client service teams in our Commercial, Construction and Specialty Insurance divisions receive "best in class" advocacy through the claims process to support BFL's client intimate strategy.

Your day as a Claims Counsel

Claims Advocacy & Legal Advice Provide guidance and assistance to clients with all aspects of the claims management process including initial reporting through to final resolution and ensure prompt and fulsome communication with clientsCollaborate with client and client service teams to advocate for clients in support of their insurance claimsProvide internal legal advice to claims team and client service teams regarding coverage, policy wordings and other legal issues that ariseMonitor and communicate relevant legal developments and communicate to claims team and client service teamsManage various lines of insurance claims with a focus on E&O liability, Directors' & Officers' liability, Employment Practices liability and commercial general liability.Collaborate with claims team members, client service teams and/or clients to help develop value added, client-specific claims servicesDevelop internal and external educational materials to augment claims service Client Service and Marketing Support Collaborate with client service teams' marketing efforts to support client retention and acquisitionDevelop claims presentations and documentation that supports promotion of "best in class" claims serviceRepresent our organization at client and industry events

Our ideal candidate

JD required and member in good standing with the Law Society of Alberta

2-4 years' legal experience including insurance (insurance coverage and and/or commercial law experience is an asset)

Exceptional analytical and problem solving skills with solution-oriented approach

Ability to manage a wide range of responsibilities ranging from legal research, internal and external presentations, claims management and industry

Ability to balance collaboration and team work with independent demands

Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills

Client centric and service oriented ethic

Excellent technical knowledge, attention to detail and precision

Effective time management and organizational skills essential
