Specialist, Deli/Bakery/HMR
***will provide leadership in all aspects of Deli/Bakery/HMR operations for assigned stores. Your key responsibilities will be to meet annual sales, gross profit, and operating budget targets specifically for Deli/Bakery/HMR. Additionally, you will be responsible for creating and executing market-specific programs and innovations as needed. Ensuring adherence to essential disciplines and standards is crucial in this position. Your support will be instrumental in marketing initiatives, staff development, and enhancing customer service levels.

Your Role:


  • Attain budgeted sales, gross profit, and operating margin targets for Deli/Bakery/Food Service through the implementation of strategies related to store assortments, pricing and marketing programs, staffing, and adherence to operating standards. Collaborate with store management and Category Manager to optimize sales and profitability by allocating space and determining the product assortment.
  • Evaluates operating results and KPI performance for Deli/Bakery/Food Service departments in stores. Devises and executes action plans to address underperforming stores and capitalize on opportunities for improvement.
  • Accountable to identify and implement market specific assortment requirements and margin opportunities for Deli/Bakery/Food Service by providing input to Category Managers and sourcing additional products as necessary to maximize profitability. Works with Procurement & Marketing on quantification for special buys, seasonal sales event opportunities and flyer quantification
  • Identify and implement "Best Practice" strategies for Deli/Bakery/Food Service department operations, ensuring their seamless integration into daily activities. Continuously evaluate the execution of performance standards and offer support to stores in implementing these standards and plans. Additionally, collaborate with logistics and Category teams to investigate and address quality issues through corrective actions.
  • Maintain detailed competitor and market knowledge through market tours and market specific department managers. Review competitive price shop surveys and make recommendations on retail prices as required
  • The role involves providing training and guidance at the store level for Deli/Bakery/Food Service departments, focusing on ordering, inventory control, shrink control, stock control, and related activities.
  • Responsible for developing and delivering the technical training program for Deli/Bakery/Food Service departments, as well as assisting in the preparation and maintenance of the Store Operations and Training Manual, and Performance Standards checklist specifically for these departments. Additionally, they offer feedback to ensure Deli/Bakery/Food Service DM trainees adhere to standards before completing the DMIT program and also provide support during annual and monthly business segment inventories.
  • Continuous product evolution will require up to date market knowledge, understanding product innovation and category trends through industry associations. Attend trade shows as required.
  • Travel to markets 90 to 120 days per year to assess performance, train and coach staff, and perform audits to ensure the delivery and superior execution of merchandising programs, instock performance, operating standards, inventory management practices and pricing policies

Desired Skills & Experience:


  • 5 or more years of experience in Deli/Bakery/Food Service;
  • Proven ability to drive customer satisfaction, financial performance, and employee satisfaction;
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with proven team player abilities
  • Demonstrated track record of workplace achievement in the selection, coaching and development of all levels of restaurant staff;
  • Market awareness and a strong retail perspective;
  • Specific knowledge and experience working with Microsoft products with an emphasis on Microsoft Excel;
  • Ability to analyze specific details and or components of a problem without losing perspective of the bigger picture;
  • Highly selfmotivated with extraordinary communication and organization skills
