Job Overview

We are looking for a Digital Executive Travel Editor to lead and scale the design, development and build of a luxury travel recommendation site.

Akin to New York Times Wirecutter and Forbes Five Star Travel Guides, the vision for this site is to become the go-to trusted source for how best to travel - whether it is a destination, hotel, restaurant and everything in between.

This role will be responsible for leading a team of content creators who will collect and synthesize local travel knowledge from around the world to generate insightful recommendations.

This role combines an editor's innovation with an operations executive's practical focus. This editorial recommendation site is in growth mode. We are looking to build impactful travel content that drives significant organic traffic to our sites.

Specifically, we want luxury travelers to have insights into the best locations, experiences, tours, hotels, restaurants, shopping, and entertainment with a thirst to want to always return for more travel knowledge.

The site should be structured in an easily navigable way for consumers to understand what you recommend and why, including an array of 'best of' guides.

This person will lead and cultivate the generation of content and determine the vision and direction, curating content for various channels.

Leveraging the network of in-country guides and access to a wide range of partners in cruise, hotel, air and tour, this will be supplemented with internet available data from trusted sources.

The Digital Executive Travel Editor will directly oversee a team of content creators who report on travel insights and recommendations.

This role will also work with the managing editor to identify growth opportunities in the ecommerce space, discern how those opportunities fit within the existing brand and execute on each opportunity while tracking performance.

Daily responsibilities include leading recommendation coverage, running editorial content meetings, overseeing content, tightening and perfecting headlines, managing workflow, managing editorial packages around tent-pole events, optimizing SEO and working with legal and standards.

This position will also work with the Range Editorial Director to maintain the voice and tone of the site.

Responsibilities:

  • Create and execute workflows to ensure the site, content team and coverage is scaling efficiently.
  • Work with Art Director to establish and refine the brand visual identity
  • Work with writers and editors to sharpen focus, headlines, angles and SEO across site and social.
  • Work with data/analytics and SEO teams on content strategies to drive audience growth.
  • Optimize posts based on affiliate partnerships and commerce opportunities
  • Track SEO trends and keyword opportunities, building and iterating based on findings
  • Top edit content as needed
  • Reaching growth and engagement targets.
  • Acting as an ambassador for the brand at industry events and with key partners and brands.
  • Editing articles for accuracy, grammar, and style.
  • Scheduling and leading regular interviews with local guides and collecting their insights into a structured location detail template.
  • Contributing to the recruiting and hiring process.
  • Building strong relationships within the travel industry

Requirements:

  • Passionate about travel along with being well travelled.
  • Degree in journalism, communications, or similar.
  • Solid creative vision and is a tastemaker.
  • Previous experience as editor (digital and print).
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Extremely organized and has strong attention to detail.
  • Good decisionmaking skills.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Strong presentation skills.

This requires an extremely talented and flexible individual who has a "roll up their sleeves" attitude and is comfortable with a strategic but hands-on position.

They have the ability to relate and build successful relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, use creativity and analytics to influence, champion the customer experience, and successfully drive and position brands.
