About Us

At the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development we ensure children in their early years have the support that they need for a positive start to school; students in pre-primary to grade 12 receive a quality education, preparing them for what lies ahead; and we work with schools, teachers and others to increase overall student achievement and success.

The Nova Scotia School Book Bureau is responsible for the acquisition and distribution of learning resources and related products to support teaching and learning and to ensure availability in a cost-effective manner to Nova Scotia schools.

About Our Opportunity

You would provide administrative support to the Nova Scotia School Book Bureau. You would be responsible for providing extensive data entry accurately into various systems, including a specialized financial, inventory database within specific timeframes. Responsible for creating various documents, maintain accurate filing system and assist with distributions. Provide professional client service with internal and external clients in the administration of our operations. You may perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience

You are currently a student enrolled in a post-secondary institution and are returning to school in the fall of 2024.

To be successful in this role you will possess the following assets:

Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment, and quickly grasp new processes
Experience in extensive data entry with high degree of accuracy
Customer service, strong communication (written/oral) and interpersonal skills
Computer skills, proficient in Microsoft Suite particularly Word, Excel and Outlook, and experience with databases, and internet
Experience with SYSPRO would be an asset
Experience with office equipment; photocopier, scanner, fax machine
Ability to work well in a team environment, as well as independently
Problem solving skills and good judgement
Keen attention to detail
Ability to prioritize workload to meet deadlines
Strong organizational skills
Ability to maintain alpha/numerical filing systems

We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: standardized test(s), interview(s), physical skills test and reference checks.

Working Conditions

Busy, open office environment with an adjoining warehouse,
Considerable time spent sitting at workstation on the phone and computer either accessing or entering information. Able to move around freely.
Physical ability to lift up to 40lbs, sometimes repeatedly, stand for extended periods of time, flexibility to reach floor to above head/shoulders
Visual demands would be those associated with reading and data entry.

Additional Information

Please note, this is casual summer student opportunity with an end date of August 31, 2024.
Located at 55 Mosher Drive, Dartmouth, NS.
Hours are 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday, excluding holidays.
Business casual work attire is required.
