    Description

    The Opportunity:

    The City of Red Deer is currently recruiting for a Payment Services Associate . The Payment Services Associate is responsible for providing cashier and general accountingservices related to receiving, processing and balancing all payments to TheCity of Red Deer. They are also responsible for maintaining cash custody andsecurity. This role is one of several positions that provides general customerservice information on behalf of the City. In this role, excellent customer interactions, accuracy and attention todetail is critical as errors could have a negative impact on customer perceptionsand relations and could impact municipal revenues.

    As our preferred candidate, youwill have:

  • Grade 12 diploma supplemented with completion ofcollege level accounting course.
  • Three years' related experience in an integratedcomputerized environment, preferably performing cash handling, banking oraccounting duties.
  • Demonstrated aptitude for communicating effectivelywith the public and other City departments including during situations ofconflict.
  • Efficient operation of a variety of office machines(calculator, debit machine, computer, etc.)
  • Above average mathematical skills.
  • Proven ability to process a high volume of work withfrequent interruptions and conflicting priorities, ensuring that essentialtasks are completed within rigid deadlines.
  • The following experience would be considered an asset:
  • Previous experience with computer programs similar toJDEdwards, Trapeze, Geoware, or Tempest Utilities software
  • Knowledge of accounts receivable, utility andcollections theory/procedures and ability to apply legislation and policy (MGA,City policies and bylaws, GST) to business practices
  • Formal training in Violence in the Workplace, Dealingwith Difficult Customers
  • Previous experience of GST, MGA, City Policies andBylaws in a municipal setting
  • Exposure to MS Excel and experience with MS Word andOutlook

  • Demonstrate an ability to work independently with ahigh degree of accuracy and in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality of information (FOIPtraining will be provided).
  • Ability to determine priorities create plans andorganize their work in an environment of competing activities and frequentinterruptions to accomplish goals efficiently and effectively.
  • Demonstrates the ability to handle sensitive andconfidential subject matter,
  • Displays strong interpersonal, teamwork and flexibilityskills.

    Remuneration:

    $30.37 to $31.97 per hour

    Hours of Work:

    37.5 hours biweekly; Monday to Friday as scheduled - schedule will vary depending on department needs; 7.5 hours per shift.

    Additional Information:

    During the initial training period, the incumbent must be available to work up to full-time hours for the first three to four weeks.
