Position Overview:


This position is a dual role as a Roads Maintainer on an assigned roads crew in the summer; and winter maintenance duties as assigned in the winter.

Performs asphalt-related repairs and maintenance of roads; performs concrete related repairs and maintenance of sidewalks, curbs, catch basins, and manholes; performs construction work related to sewer repairs, trails, sports fields, parks and creeks; snow removal.


Responsibilities:


  • Primary function is a Roads Maintainer on an assigned roads crew in the summer; and winter maintenance duties as assigned in the winter.
  • Cleans garbage and debris from streets, sidewalks and alleys in the Downtown
- core, as well as on City & Regional roadways, city-owned property, bush & dense- bush areas and parkland, by hand and by operating street and sidewalk sweepers,- garbage compactor truck, Roll-Off truck and various other equipment.
  • Monitors and replenishes jobrelated supplies through stockroom (e.g., multizorb, sharps and safety kits, garbage bags)
  • Operates sidewalk sweeper through designated route in the Downtown core to
- clean sidewalks, curbs, gutters, and parking stalls.
  • Operates street sweeper to clean city and regional roadways. Monitors gauges to
- ensure equipment is functioning properly

  • Asphalt:
Pre-trip Inspection, Road Repair, Utility Cuts, Crack Sealing, Pothole Repair, Infrared Repair, Asphalt Plant

  • Concrete: Pretrip Inspection, Sidewalks, Curbs & Gutters (new installations and repairs), manhole repair, catch basin repair, mudjacking
  • Construction: Community Trails/Sports fields/Courts, sewers
  • Snow Removal: Drives single/dual axle dump truck (tandem) with plow, wing, a variety of salters, and antiicing (e.g., City streets, parking lots) to remove and haul snow, makes salt brine, operate sidewalk plow, shovel snow.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:


  • Grade 12 diploma or equivalent.
  • Must possess a valid DZ driver's license in good standing.
  • Must successfully complete required progressional criteria as it relates to this job title.
  • Must be able to obtain Dump Truck Permit no later than 3 months after hire date.
  • Must be willing to work shifts and be available for winter call outs, including overtime as required.
  • Must have demonstrated communication skills with an ability to keep accurate written records.
  • Must be ability to participate as an effective team member.
  • Must be available for winter call outs as required.
  • Must be reliable with a good attitude and employment record.
