Supported by the Government of Canada through the federal Networks of Centres of Excellence (NCE) Program, GlycoNet is a pan-Canadian initiative bringing together researchers, industry and academic partners to develop solutions to unmet health needs through the study of glycomics.


Position summary
Under the direction of the Executive Director and with input from the Training Committee (TC), the Research Management Committee (RMC) and the Scientific Director, the Training and Project Management Coordinator

  • Develops, implements, executes, monitors and evaluates training initiatives for both Network students and staff;
  • Seeks out additional funding, opportunities and partners to support the training mission of the Network.
  • Coordinates research grant competitions, gathers funded project reports and outcomes, populates the project database, informs the Executive Director of any identified or perceived issues, and helps prepare reports to the Scientific Advisory Board (SAB), RMC, Board of Directors, and to the NCE.

Duties

Training coordination

  • Supports and implements the overall training strategy of the Network as directed by the TC and Scientific Director; Identifies training needs of Network trainees and staff;
  • Identifies internal and external training programs to address competency gaps;
  • Partners with internal stakeholders regarding staff training needs;
  • Identifies companies interested in providing internships to glyconet trainees;
  • Identifies funding partners (federal, provincial, international, academic and industrial) for the training program;
  • Works closely with the Communication Associate in the development of the Network training program;
  • Fosters relationship with the GlycoNet Trainee Association Executive Committee (GTA-EC);;
  • Develops, executes and evaluates KTEE workshops such as IP protection, technology transfer, entrepreneurship;
  • Implements and evaluates fellowship program for trainees to be crosstrained in GlycoNet research groups;
  • Develops performance metrics for each training initiative;
  • Responds to trainees and partners queries and requests for information, through direct correspondence and social media tools;
  • Supports implementation of program marketing with the Communications Associate and calls for proposals for Network initiatives through a variety of means;
  • Contributes to training planning sessions and tasks related to operational plans, best practices and efficiencies;
  • Implements program evaluation through collection of participant feedback information, following up as necessary to secure completed surveys and other forms of feedback, and regularly consolidating this feedback for external or internal observers;
  • Develops appropriate research ethics protocols required for collection and analysis of participant feedback information;
  • Maintains efficient and accurate documentation of activities, policies and processes, and results of each of the Network initiatives

Project Management coordination

  • Is the main point of contact for grant competitions;
  • Updates project management tool (FORUM) on regular basis; adds new project information
  • Evaluates and optimizes reporting template and tools (FORUM) to fit reporting needs for SAB, RMC and NCE;
  • Gathers research project outcomes on a quarterly basis as directed by the Executive Director;
  • Brings to the attention of the Executive Director any identified issues;
  • Develops project related policies as request by Scientific or Executive Director;
  • Helps prepare reports to SAB, RMC and NCE;
  • Identifies success stories and awards, and works closely with the Communication Associate to promote them.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A university degree in science; preferably including glycomics research and 2 years of related experience;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills required to effectively interact with individuals from a variety of diverse cultures;
  • Able to communicate in a professional manner ranging from business writing to using social media;
  • Strong ability to analyze data and qualitative information, anticipate challenges, and understand implications of decisions;
