Primary Responsibilities


The primary duty of the
North America
Principal CFD Practice Lead is to develop and lead modeling efforts using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software that will optimize building designs, deliver key insights, and solve unique and complicated challenges.

The Principal will build relationships within the HDR matrix, leverage CFD modelling capabilities to solve technical problems, and independently execute projects.


Principal Engineers have a unique opportunity as leaders within the practice to represent technical capabilities within and outside the organization, help drive project delivery, build teams, influence culture, shape reputational excellence and client relations, and advance thought leadership and innovation.


Specific duties include:


  • Taking a lead role in delivery and team management to optimize facility design, with a focus on Data Center modeling using 6Sigma, Ansys Fluent, or other similar software.
  • Leveraging experience and networking to work within the organization and with external clients to solve challenges in support of complex projects using CFD.
  • Support business development and pursuit opportunities, build client relationships representing CFD capabilities.
  • Assessing the development and deployment of computational modeling tools and capability for analyzing and delivering high performance and informed building environments.
  • Represent thought leadership through technical publications and presenting and representing HDR with clients at technical conferences.
  • Supporting proposal development for CFD scope.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • An Engineering / Energy / Physics / Mathematics or related Bachelor's degree
  • A minimum of 10 years of CFD modeling experience.
  • A minimum of 5 years of modeling experience with the Cadence 6Sigma or Ansys Fluent software.
  • A track record of successfully delivering projects related to:
  • Data center cooling and optimization
  • Indoor temperature / thermal comfort studies,
  • Outdoor thermal comfort / UTCI studies,
  • Natural Ventilation studies,
  • Winddriven envelope infiltration studies,
  • Mass and form studies,
  • Doubleskin Façade envelope studies,
  • Outdoor air intake / exhaust separation studies,
  • Experience providing technical and team management to ensure modelling projects are completed within project parameters and exceeding client expectations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, presentation and team working skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CFD / Engineering / Physics / Mathematics related Master's degree
  • Working knowledge of other software such as, Autodesk CFD, CoolSim, MicroFlo, Simcenter STAR-CCM+, IES (EMEA).
  • Previous experience leading/performing CFD modeling for Data Center clients.
  • Previous experience managing staff, clients, contractors, and staff for an engineering consulting firm.

Typical starting pay range for this position is $160,000 - $200,000 annually depending upon skills, experience, education and geographical location.
