Your Opportunity:

The Unit Clerk role is essential to the smooth and efficient operation of the nursing unit.

As initial contact person, the Unit Clerk is instrumental in facilitating communication between nursing and other health disciplines, departments, patients and families, and in maintaining confidentiality of patient information.

Under limited supervision, the Unit Clerk is responsible for performing clerical and receptionist duties for the nursing unit as well as maintaining an efficient work environment.


Description:


As a Unit Clerk, you will be responsible for the efficient flow of communication between health professionals, departments, patients and families while maintaining confidentiality of patient information.

You will also be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks which may include reception, greeting and directing visitors, patients and health professionals, maintaining patient records and charts, transcribing and processing physician orders as well as scheduling patient tests and/or treatments.

You will also be responsible for performing a range of administrative activities in support of the unit.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Completion of an accredited Unit Clerk Course or equivalent training program.


Additional Required Qualifications:

Successful completion of Medical Terminology Course. Demonstrated proficient computer skills essential with advanced knowledge of MS Windows/Word/Excel, SCM, Clinibase, OR Manager, and ESP. Demonstrated high functioning time management and organizational skills. Accuracy and attention to detail is required.


Preferred Qualifications:

Three years' experience as a Unit Clerk in an acute surgical setting desired. Demonstrated ability to prioritize work and cope with frequent interruptions in a demanding environment. Demonstrated positive and effective interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrated initiative, flexibility and independence. Connect Care experience an asset.
