Description:


The Special Projects Superintendent will be responsible for completing projects in this fast-paced, multi-faceted role within a maximum contract value of $500K.

The Special Projects Superintendent must possess the knowledge, experience, and confidence to engage and professionally interact with design professionals, consultants, and client(s) in accordance with the contract documents, schedule, and budget.

The Special Projects Superintendent works closely with the client and prime consultant for the project and fulfills an integral role on the project.

The Special Projects Superintendent must be a professional and a personable leader committed to the overall objective and self-development within the company.


Responsibilities:


  • Working collaboratively with the Special Projects Manager, this position will identify, pursue, and establish new opportunities essential to our organizational growth within new and current markets throughout the Edmonton and Northern Alberta marketplaces.
  • Assist the Special Projects Manager to review tender documents assessing scope, risks involved, tender complexity etc. and provide feedback.
  • Conduct Site inspections for tenders understanding, analysis of conditions and identification of activities that may or may not be shown in the tender documents.
  • When required, calculate, and prepare quantities. Ensure valueengineering ideas are considered on every bid.
  • Compile letters/schedules and any other items required by tender.
  • Assist with preparation of tenders and budgets.
  • Incorporate all relevant details, once tender package is complete, present the package to Special Projects Manager for approval and comments.
  • Review contract details relevant to the company's ability to deliver under the contract.
  • With assistance from Project Coordinator
  • Prepare project schedules.
  • Review project requirements and assess equipment requirements.
  • Communicate with design team/client as/when needed.
  • Review/approve and expedite all shop drawings/samples and approvals.
  • Develop, monitor, and maintain the project construction schedule (on a weekly basis).
  • Raise and discuss relevant issues at the job site meetings and prepare and issue minutes for all meetings.
  • Inform the Consultant(s)/Client of any errors, discrepancies or omissions contained within the Consultant(s) design drawings.
  • Ensure completion of and track all independent inspections and testing as required.
  • Assist in issuing monthly progress draws and invoicing to consultant and client (including holdbacks).
  • Maintain and enforce good construction standards and quality control.
  • Control and monitor labour, material, and equipment expenses.
  • Prepare and distribute progress reports as required.
  • Ensure all required municipal inspections are performed.
  • Ensure project deficiency lists are expedited within appropriate time frame(s).
  • Comply with all corporate policies/processes and procedures as well as Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) administrative rules while carrying out all projects.
  • Maintain a tidy and orderly work area exhibiting pride in work performance and contributing to a healthy and safe work environment.
  • Ensure exceptional, courteous, and respectful customer service.
  • Comply with and participate in the Company's Health & Safety and Quality programs and initiatives.
  • Perform any other duties as required.

Qualifications and Experience:


  • Completion of Postsecondary education in Construction, or relevant trade ticket/certification would be preferred.
  • Minimum five years of related work experience as a Site Superintendent for a general contractor would be preferred.
  • Proven ability to guide safe work practices in a highpressure environment while maintaining project quality and consistently delivering projects on time and within the budget.
