Database Specialist

Technology and Project Services, Systems Development

Position Summary
As the Database Specialist, you will be working primarily within a Microsoft-centric environment.

Your role entails furnishing dependable, scalable database solutions tailored to fulfill both immediate and long-term objectives of the BC Securities Commission.

Your responsibilities include crafting and enhancing data models, overseeing diverse data pipelines, administering multiple databases, and actively engaging in project initiatives.

You will work closely with cross-functional teams to understand requirements, design scalable and efficient data solutions, and ensure the reliability and performance of our data systems.


Key responsibilities

  • Manages all corporate data models, maintaining and extending these as required
  • Designs and implements data pipelines to automate data ingestion, processing, and analysis workflows
  • Develops, tests, and reviews database code as required
  • Provides practical assistance in the use of corporate database management systems to store and manipulate data
  • Designs, implements, manages and administers databases (on cloud and onprem), data warehouses, and data lakes.
  • Performs database tuning, security administration, and software upgrades
  • Codevelops databaserelated policies, standards, and technical guidelines
  • Implements new technologies and develops the support infrastructures
  • Stay updated with the latest technologies and best practices in data engineering, DevOps, and cloud computing.

Qualifications

  • Technical diploma or university degree in computer science or management information systems or another relevant area
  • Minimum of three (3) years of proven experience as a Database Specialist or similar role, demonstrating expertise in data engineering, database administration, and cloud computing.
  • Microsoft certified in technologies related to data management considered an asset.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to set and meet deadlines, think strategically, and develop and work with a team
  • Data platforms: MS SQL Server expert who is comfortable in a Microsoftbased environment, using SQL Server 2022 with AlwaysOn High Availability features, SSIS/SSAS, and Azure SQL

Ops Tools:
Experience with AzureDevOps, Git, and CI/CD pipelines

  • Data pipelines: Familiarity with ELT and ETL tools, including SSIS and Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics
  • Dev
elopment tools: comfortable using Visual Studio, SSMS, R, Python, Powershell, other languages and tools relevant to the role's duties

  • Handson experience with Azure cloud platform

The salary range for this position is $83,997 (minimum) - $109,087 (midpoint) - $134,177 (maximum).
