In accordance with the Temporary Librarian, Administrative and Professional Staff (TLAPO) Agreement, this position offers a comprehensive benefits package found on our Benefits Overview page and annual salary range of $69,887 - $116,044.

This position has an initial appointment of 3 years.


Location - This role is hybrid with a mix of remote and in-person at North Campus Edmonton and Grande Prairie. This position is based in Grande Prairie.

Position


In order to increase the number of physicians trained in Alberta, particularly in rural areas, the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, University of Alberta is partnering with Northwestern Polytechnic based in Grande Prairie to develop a regional campus for the medical school.


Reporting to the Vice Dean, Education, the Manager, Medical Education Expansion will work closely with the Northern Alberta Medical Program (NAMP) Regional Campus Implementation Committee and lead elements of the program expansion.

This position is based in Grande Prairie.


Duties
Under the direction of the Vice Dean, Education & NAMP Regional Campus Implementation Committee:

  • Establish and oversee the planning, development, and implementation of a regional medical school campus in Grande Prairie.
  • Establish a medical education program that meets the region's healthcare needs, promotes academic excellence, and aligns with Faculty and Accreditation standards.
  • Provide guidance, support, and oversight throughout all stages of the development of the regional medical school campus. It will collaborate with relevant stakeholders to ensure the successful realization of the project.
  • Participate on any committee or subcommittee(s) relevant to the goals and objectives of the regional campus eg. concerning program evaluation, student assessments, academic affairs, admissions, equity and social accountability, research
  • Reflecting on the needs of the region and medical school: confirming and regularly reviewing the region's healthcare needs and workforce requirements to adapt the necessary programs and facilities for the medical school site.
  • Evaluating potential locations for teaching and learning, considering accessibility, infrastructure, rural and remote training opportunities and other essential factors.
  • Collaborating with, and taking direction from the MD program educational experts at main campus to deliver a comprehensive, modern, and relevant curriculum that meets and adapts to healthcare needs in Grande Prairie and Northern Alberta.

Resource Planning:

Assist in the development or modification of training and educational facilities including classrooms, clinics and clinical training sites, laboratories, libraries, and residential facilities for students, ensuring adequate resources are available.


  • Developing a detailed budget for the project and exploring various funding sources, including government funding, private donors, trust funds and partnerships.
  • Working with the relevant curriculum committees to ensure that the regional site meets all required standards for accreditation and regulatory compliance
  • Developing a marketing plan to attract potential students both locally and specifically from the North and establishing a student admission process.
