Job Summary


The Memory and Imagination Laboratory is looking for a Research Assistant (RA) to support the implementation of many ongoing research projects.

The RA will work alongside with Dr. Daniela Palombo and the members of her research team on projects related to memory.

Duties to include ensuring equipment related to virtual reality, psychophysiological measurement, and computer processing is functioning and well maintained in relation to ongoing experiments, as well as ensuring server backups are functioning.

Organizational Status

Will report to Principal Investigator, Dr. Palombo.

Work Performed

Study management

  • Maintain and troubleshoot laboratory software and equipment related to virtual reality, computer processing, psychophysiological assessment, and neuroimaging.
  • Assist in obtaining new equipment for the laboratory following Principal Investigator's instructions.
  • Troubleshoot experimental tasks in relation to laboratory software or hardware following established protocols.
  • Maintain detailed records of laboratory protocols.
  • Completes other tasks appropriate to the classification.
Consequence of Error/Judgement

Work will be performed according to clear procedures; work will be monitored. However, some individual initiative is required to monitor one's own work for errors. Errors could result in loss of data, lab reputation, and the slowing down of lab productivity. Errors could result in ethics approval being delayed.

Supervision Received

The Principal Investigator, Dr. Palombo will provide direct, frequent supervision (i.e., weekly interaction). This entails receiving detailed instructions about equipment monitoring, or other related tasks and feedback on tasks performed.

Supervision Given


May provide guidance and supervision to undergraduate or graduate research assistants, volunteers, or students, including training to use hardware or software.

Minimum Qualifications

High school graduation and a minimum one year of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in biological, health, or psychological science preferred.
  • Ability to write computer code in any language.
  • Ability to troubleshoot in relation to computer software or hardware.
  • Willingness to learn new software and technology.
  • Effective organizational skills.
  • Ability to follow established guidelines and protocols.
  • Ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work both independently and within a team environment.
  • High personal motivation and selfmanagement.
  • Ability to take responsibility in making progress without direct supervision.
