Our web development coordinator ensures that the Capilano Students' Union website looks good and functions well as a current, engaging, and helpful resource for students to learn more about and connect with the Capilano Students' Union.

While the web development coordinator receives direction and mentorship from the communications director on a day-to-day basis and can expect to interact and engage with our student leadership, they ultimately share a reporting relationship with the executive director.


Duties
In particular, the web development coordinator performs the following job duties:

Website Review (30%)

  • Following a review of the website's current performance, content, and architecture, assists the communications director with the development of website standards to be used across the Capilano Students' Union website, including guidance on which staff should have which access levels.
  • Supports departments with the development of their website content, ensuring that the supplied content meets the organization's website standards, is copyedited, and is either evergreen or can be dynamically updated.

Website Design and Layout (60%)

  • Working closely with the communications team, reviews and applies a new theme to the website, ensuring that themes and styles are applied correctly so that simple style updates across the organization's website are possible.
  • Working closely with the communications team, overhauls and lays out each website page using the new theme, content, and website standards.
  • As the project closes, ensures that the communications team and other team members with website access are fully trained on how to carry out functions assigned to them under the organization's website standards, including draft page designs and formatting guidelines.

Other Duties (10%)

  • Works safely, in accordance with our health and safety program.
  • Protects the personal information of coworkers, students, and the public.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by resource staff or the executive director.

Here's what it takes to be successful in this role

  • In order to effectively support our communications director in ensuring our website functions well for students and matches our brand, we're looking for someone with at least six months'
    experience with web design, especially recent experience using WordPress.
