Job Summary


The HSJCC Communications and Engagement Specialist will support the work of the Human Services and Justice Coordinating Committee (HSJCC) Network by working closely with the HSJCC Secretariat staff to develop and implement a comprehensive strategy to improve communications, engagement and representation of diverse voices and members within the Network.

The Specialist will support the strategic direction, programs and policy initiatives of the HSJCC Network through extensive engagement, networking, communications, knowledge exchange and event management skills.

They will work directly with the Provincial HSJCC, Local and Regional HSJCCs and other agencies within the human services and justice sectors by strategically leveraging the HSJCC Network's communications tools, including its website, newsletter, and social media channels.


Core Responsibilities

  • Creating and executing strategies to share relevant information and ideas and promote the HSJCC Network
  • Managing communications activities to ensure consistent branding and messaging for the Provincial HSJCC and HSJCC Network
  • Translating the complex work of the HSJCC Network into easily digested analysis and content for internal and external audiences
  • Leading knowledge exchange activities including educational webinars, forums, and conferences for the Provincial HSJCC
  • Contributing innovative ideas and content for various collateral materials (web, print, multimedia and other promotional materials)
  • Coordinating multisectoral and diverse groups to lead the work on behalf of the HSJCC Secretariat for provincial advisory committees
  • Developing and implementing an enhanced comprehensive strategy to improve stakeholder engagement at a local, regional and provincial level
  • Managing the HSJCC Network's social media presence using a variety of tools with a focus on enhancing and improving the impact, influence and reach among internal and external audiences
  • Working with a wide range of media, including online content management systems, graphics and images, audio/video streaming and webinars
  • Collaborating with key partners including but not limited to Local and Regional HSJCCs, member organizations and those with lived experience

Skills & Experience

  • Strong communications skills and ability to execute strategies in a clear, digestible manner utilizing a wide range of formats.
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships and networks.
  • University degree in a relevant field. Three to five years working in an engagement and communications environment with experience managing, writing, and editing content for various communications and digital platforms.
  • Experience working in multisectoral partnerships and liaising with nongovernmental organizations and government agencies an asset.
  • Experience in graphic design, web design and social media an asset.
  • Familiarity with key concepts of mental health promotion, health equity and social determinants of health required.
  • Strong facilitation skills and experience leading conflict resolution.
  • Experience working with peerled groups and those with lived experience groups an asset.
  • Working knowledge of the criminal justice sector and the intersections between the human services and justice systems an asset.
  • Experience managing projects and managing multiple tasks within established timelines in a team environment required.

Salary
This position pays between $65,000.00 and $73,158.07 per annum.


Working Conditions
This is a full-time, regular (permanent) position working standard office hours (currently 35 hours/week). This position is based in Toronto, Ontario and may require regular travel.

We are currently operating within a hybrid model, with colleagues working from the office 3 days/week and from home 2 days/week.


This position is also a desk job with extended periods of sitting, reading, telephone/virtual interaction, and working at the computer.

This position involves some moderate lifting, shipping, and handling.

Attendance at various meetings throughout the workday/workweek will be required; meetings may occur on short notice, depending on the circumstances.

This position is within the OPSEU Bargaining Unit.
