Hours of work: 35 hour/week


Reporting to the Manager, Strategic Initiatives in the Strategic Policy and Performance Division; the Epidemiologist will provide expertise in the areas of epidemiology, biostatistics, survey methods and project management.

The role includes monitoring data, leading projects, as well as providing analysis and interpretation, program evaluation and epidemiological advice in support of Peel's Community Safety and Well-Being (CSWB) Plan as well as other divisional priorities.


Who we are:

The Epidemiologist will be part of a multi-disciplinary team of professionals supporting the CSWB Plan implementation and renewal. The Police Services Act requires all municipalities to have a CSWB Plan.

Over 25 organizations, representing emergency services, school boards, health and social service providers and governments, came together over 2 years to develop Peel's CSWB Plan, which was approved by Regional Council in 2020 and sets out how partners can work together to make Peel a safer, more inclusive and connected community where all residents thrive.

While the plan recognizes there are many topics that impact community safety and well-being, 3 areas of focus have been identified: family violence, mental health and addictions and systemic discrimination.


What you will do in this role:

  • Participate in the compilation, verification and reporting of health status data including:
- playing a lead role in the development, implementation, and evaluation of new health status data, and information collection and reporting methods;
- consulting with staff regarding analysis and interpretation of health status data, and advising on health assessment surveys and related research
- involvement in population health assessment-related projects (e.g., health status reports, divisional epidemiologic or data-related projects);
- developing and implementing strategies to disseminate population health assessment data both internally and externally

  • Assist the Manager and colleagues in preparing and monitoring work plans for the team
  • Participate in departmental, regional and provincial committees as required
  • Data analysis and knowledge translation of complex information to regional staff and external stakeholders
  • Collaborate and work with internal staff, external agencies and epidemiology colleagues in the province as required

What the role requires:


  • Master's degree in Epidemiology or equivalent preferred
  • Experience with epidemiological study design, and data collection
  • Knowledge and understanding of public health issues
  • Experience using statistical software (e.g. SPSS, STATA, SAS) and Excel
  • Experience in crosssectoral collaboration on complex health and social issues is considered an asset

Skills/Abilities:


  • Ability to synthesize, evaluate and integrate health/epidemiological information from multiple sources, and to provide recommendations for policy formulation/dissemination.
  • Excellent facilitation, project management and organization skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work efficiently within an interdisciplinary team setting
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

Work Mode & Job Location:


In this role you will have the ability to work remotely and attend on-site when required based on operational requirements at the 7120 Hurontario St., Mississauga, ON worksite.

The frequency of on-site activities may vary on a weekly basis and is based on operational requirements. Your remote work location must be located within the province of Ontario.
