Program Coordinator, Indigenous Pathways Program

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in the design and implementation of the Indigenous Pathway Program
  • Act as a liaison between current and incoming Indigenous Engineering students and the Faculty of Engineering
  • Build relationships between the Faculty of Engineering, the Ulnooweg Education Centre, and the broader Indigenous Communities
  • Consult with other professional service providers, as appropriate, to assist in the determination and provision of services.
  • Provide direct, oneonone and group supports to students selfidentified as Indigenous.
  • Inform students of resources available on and offcampus, determine the most appropriate resources to reduce or remove barriers faced by Indigenous students, and facilitate the development and implementation of programming.
  • Enhance students' awareness of available educational resources such as tutoring, coop programs, other learning opportunities to enrich the student experience.
  • Provide culturally appropriate support and referrals for service to Indigenous students enrolled in the program.
  • Advise and support Engineering students in collaboration with Ulnooweg Education Centre and Dalhousie's Assistant Dean, EDIA, Faculty of Engineering.
  • In consultation with communities, knowledge keepers, current and prospective students, define and establish a positive feedback loop to inform best practices in the delivery of student supports.
  • Act as a liaison between incoming and current students preparing for entry to Engineering with Dalhousie University
  • Host regular meetings with UEC, and the Assistant Dean (EDIA), Faculty of Engineering to discuss observations, progress, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Provide regular reports on efforts made in the Mi'kmaw Communities to promote Engineering as a career choice for students in the secondary education system landscape.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Postsecondary education preferred (engineering, indigenous studies, or education would be an asset)
  • All related experience lived, professional and academic will be considered.
  • Experience and knowledge around Indigenous knowledge systems such as Etuaptmumk and Netuklimk.
  • Strong understanding of the Indigenous community landscape in Atlantic Canada.
  • Strong communitybuilding, relationship building, and engagement skills
  • Experience working with Indigenous students, and communitygroups.
  • Familiarity working within a university setting is an asset.
  • This is a designated position open only to those who selfidentify as Indigenous.
