    Position Summary

NOTE:

This posting is for an internal applicant working out of the Comox Valley Campus.**Reporting to the Director, Centre for Teaching and Learning Innovation, this position is responsible for supporting academic quality enhancement activities and initiatives.

This includes areas such as program review and renewal, curriculum development processes, course and program enhancements, new course and program design and alignment to learning outcomes.

This position will also represent the Centre on the Curriculum Committee, support faculty in their updating and enhancing of program and course outlines, learning outcomes, content, and assessment.


  • The Centre for Teaching and Learning Innovation is North Island College's teaching, learning and technology teaching commons for faculty, support staff and administration. The Centre staff assist the programs, people and places engaged in designing and facilitating student learning experiences.
  • We do this by creating high quality curriculumsupported learning opportunities, individual and group facilitated consulting support and development of resources to assist faculty in redesigning/designing evidencebased pedagogicallysound learning for all students. We also support the enhancement of caring and compassionate classrooms and courses through scholarly reflection, formative feedback, and engagement in a culture of ongoing curriculum renewal.
    Position Competencies
  • Teaching and Learning Specialists require the following competencies for successful performance of the duties and responsibilities:
  • Competencies in program review processes, facilitation of small and large groups through the planning, data gathering, self-study, external review, final report, and action plan phases as well and working with programs and discipline areas in gathering feedback between program reviews
  • Competencies in survey design, student learning experience feedback surveys, mid and endpoint course feedback survey questions, focus groups, program advisory groups etc.
  • Leadership skills and abilities including the ability to independently lead projects, manage progress, produce summary reports
  • Ability to foster a collegial and positive, work environment
  • Collaborative skills in the support of change management activities
  • Effective communication and organizational skills including strong interpersonal effectiveness
  • Creation of a positive climate and culture of learning

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Foster community and communication around teaching and learning by working with various members of College communities, Institutional Research and Planning, the Senior Research Analyst
  • Program Quality, committees, support staff and faculty members around program review and renewal
  • Work in tandem with the Senior Research Analyst
  • Program Quality on all phases of the program review process, follow up activities, student learning experience surveys and other data gathering tools and activities to provide evidence and current feedback on programming for faculty and others
  • Provide emergent, evidenceinformed pedagogical and learning technologies support to faculty in the design, development, delivery, and reflection of courses, programs, and program review processes
  • Recommend and then assist instructors in implementing studentcentered and active learning strategies that address diverse learning needs, abilities, and backgrounds of all learners as faculty develop or redevelop courses and programs
  • Assist/facilitate faculty members in the creation and implementation of effective learning strategies, class, course, and program design because of the program review process or through their own requests to enhance current programming
  • Undertake leadership and supportive roles in course design/redesign programs, workshops, and customized offerings to faculty to support the work of program review, renewal, and curriculum development
  • Provide pedagogical and educational technology assistance for online, digital, and blended course design, video and web conferencing experiences and other learning technology tools as faculty are undertaking program renewal activities or action items out of program review
  • Conduct inquiries and share knowledge on educational development and learning technologies as part of professional learning plan and educational development
