As part of the Digital Services Team in Communications and Engagement, the Web Coordinator is responsible for managing integrated web-based communications, content optimization, digital content creation, and user experience for the City of Edmonton's corporate external and internal websites and onecity intranet).


The Web Coordinator is responsible for aligning web activities with the City's Communication and Engagement Department strategies to conceive, refine and produce functional web content and solutions that meet citizen, business and employee needs.

With a focus on the City of Edmonton's Cultural Commitments of Safe, Helpful, Accountable, Integrated and Excellent, the Web Coordinator will:

  • Work with internal business partners and other stakeholders to manage web content, within the City's existing web standards, processes and guidelines, to achieve their business goals
  • Provide excellent customer service to internal business partners and other stakeholders in the planning and posting of their content, demonstrating the ability to form and nurture positive and productive relationships, even through challenges
  • Be responsible for the daytoday maintenance and editing of web content on and onecity (intranet); this includes building new web pages, editing current content or redesigning existing pages based on user feedback, analytics and content design standards
  • Ensure best practices in accessibility, SEO, responsive design, and site performance are adhered to when creating and updating content
  • Ensure that web content meets corporate standards, design style and consistency
  • Ensure the quality, currency and timeliness of web content
  • Follow content workflows and processes, working closely with colleagues in Communications and Engagement for collaboration and approval
  • Collaborate with the Digital Services Strategy team on projects and initiatives created to improve the City's web environment and page content
  • Track work requests and provide regular updates in the Communications and Engagement Department's project management tool (Workfront)
  • Proactively support the quality assurance process by routinely reviewing web content submissions helping to identify and fix issues
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:


  • Diploma from a recognized community college or technical college in business, web design and development, communications, or a related discipline
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in website development projects with proven web development skills or experience in journalism, applied communications, or a related industry
  • Experience in content management, web editing, web writing, and coordination of web page design as part of an integrated, crossfunctional team is an asset
  • Experience in web quality assurance, including managing a broad range of processes and standards, providing author feedback, overseeing workflow approvals, and offering web author support
  • Considerable knowledge and training on web authoring software and web publishing administration software, in particular the City's web content management system, Drupal or similar system
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat, and Google Docs, Sheets and Slides, and the ability to code (HTML/XHTML)
  • Demonstrated ability to operate in teamfocused and consultative roles, and the ability to build and maintain positive and productive relationships with a portfolio of clients and effectively problemsolve in this context
  • Demonstrated success in managing multiple tasks and projects, and competing priorities
  • Demonstrated success in operating with a sound level of independence with mínimal direction and oversight
