About the Position:

This position is responsible for performing simple and complex sample preparations and extractions, routine laboratory maintenance tasks and simple analyses.

Specific Responsibilities:

Sample disposal, assists analysts, Retrieve samples from storage, Store samples in sample cooler
Weighing and traying samples under supervision
Operate lab instrument/equipment such as pipettes, shakers, centrifuges, pH meters etc;
Perform instrument/equipment calibration, maintenance and repair as required;
Perform sample preparation filtration, screening, extraction and digestion;
Prepare all required reagents, standards, reference materials, etc;
Carry out all required data processing (i.e. calculations, data review, data entry, archival, etc.);
Carry out all required recordkeeping & documentation;
General laboratory cleanup and maintenance, monitor controlled equipment;
Clean and maintain glassware and lab ware,
Assist in sample flow and archiving as well as data archiving;
Perform all required quality control procedures;
Produce all tasks within specific turnaround times (TAT);
Use correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality;
Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures;
Other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Must be a careful and meticulous worker;
Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel);
Must be capable of working with mínimal supervision;
Must be well organised, and able to work independently as well as part of a team;
Ability to work in a fast paced environment ;
Excellent communication skills with the ability to understand and carry out detailed instructions.

Required Qualifications:

High School Diploma or equivalent;
Previous Lab experience, full training will be provided.

Physical Demands:

Manual dexterity to perform intricate and/or repetitive tasks;
Wear issued personal protective equipment (PPE) such as dust masks, gloves etc., when required;
Ability to stand for a full shift;
You may be exposed to unpleasant odours;
Please note that ALS operates 24/7 and may require day, afternoon, and graveyard shift work including weekends.
