About the Position:
This position is responsible for performing simple and complex sample preparations and extractions, routine laboratory maintenance tasks and simple analyses.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Sample disposal, assists analysts, Retrieve samples from storage, Store samples in sample cooler
- Weighing and traying samples under supervision
- Operate lab instrument/equipment such as pipettes, shakers, centrifuges, pH meters etc;
- Perform instrument/equipment calibration, maintenance and repair as required;
- Perform sample preparation filtration, screening, extraction and digestion;
- Prepare all required reagents, standards, reference materials, etc;
- Carry out all required data processing (i.e. calculations, data review, data entry, archival, etc.);
- Carry out all required recordkeeping & documentation;
- General laboratory cleanup and maintenance, monitor controlled equipment;
- Clean and maintain glassware and lab ware,
- Assist in sample flow and archiving as well as data archiving;
- Perform all required quality control procedures;
- Produce all tasks within specific turnaround times (TAT);
- Use correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality;
- Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures;
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Must be a careful and meticulous worker;
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel);
- Must be capable of working with mínimal supervision;
- Must be well organised, and able to work independently as well as part of a team;
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment ;
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to understand and carry out detailed instructions.
Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent;
- Previous Lab experience, full training will be provided.
Physical Demands:
- Manual dexterity to perform intricate and/or repetitive tasks;
- Wear issued personal protective equipment (PPE) such as dust masks, gloves etc., when required;
- Ability to stand for a full shift;
- You may be exposed to unpleasant odours;
- Please note that ALS operates 24/7 and may require day, afternoon, and graveyard shift work including weekends.
