Position Summary


As a Divisional Special Constable within our Division Platoons, you will be responsible for the custody and transportation of prisoners including persons in custody awaiting treatment at a medical facility as well as responding to lower priority, non-investigative calls for service, conducting follow-ups/video retrieval as well as assisting in witness canvassing, statement taking and missing person searches and crime scene protection when operationally required.


Responsibilities:


What will your typical day look like? Responds to lower priority calls for service, including found property/drugs, stale break and enters, animal complaints, By-Law complaints, recovered vehicles/counterfeit currency, juvenile complaints, parking, and property damage calls and generates occurrence reports.

Assists uniform officers in canvassing for witnesses, taking statements and information, blocking off roadways, conducting follow-ups, video retrieval and transporting vehicles to the garage for service.

Transports prisoners to detention facilities (i.e. parole warrants), immigration facilities, medical facilities, hospitals, doctor's offices, police divisions, court houses, arrest locations or other detention locations. Transports witnesses from crime scenes to and from divisions for interviews. Relieves uniform officers from Mental Health Act apprehensions at hospitals.

Attends non-emergent active scenes and assists uniform officers with guarding crime scenes, taking of witness statements and assisting with transportation requirements.

Maintains notebook containing an accurate and thorough account of up-to-date activities. Attends court and testifies as required. Performs additional duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

You are someone with:
A High School Diploma or equivalent, plus additional police science courses and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience A minimum of one year law enforcement experience required Demonstrated knowledge of CPIC, PQT and UCR/Niche systems MS Outlook-Preferred Valid Certificate in First Aid and CPR Effective oral communication skills Demonstrated physical ability to perform all activities Ability to handle stressful situations in a positive manner Valid Ontario Driver's Licence (Class G) with full driving privileges

Applicable Tests


You will be required to successfully complete the following tests: Grammar Spelling Vocabulary Fitness Test - PREP Pursuit Restraint Circuit completed in 2:37 or less and shuttle run must be completed to level 6.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Application details will be reviewed to assess for minimum qualifications as received If qualified, applicants will be contacted immediately for testing.

Each level of testing must be passed to progress to next steps All qualified applicants will be booked for written and fitness testing (week of May 29th/June 5th) If successful in written & fitness, applicants will be scheduled for a panel interview (week of June 12th) Written testing & interview with a psychologist (June 19th - July 7th) Medical testing including hearing and vision testing (July 10th - July 28th) Offer of employment will be mid August Training to commence Monday September 11th and may include day, afternoon or weekend shifts Applicants must be available and commit to the above schedule in order to be considered for hire Shiftwork required based on Uniform 12-hour schedule 13 positions will be regular full-time, 5 positions will be regular part-time, working full-time hours, with the intention to convert part-time positions to regular full-time in 2024
