The Rekai Centres is currently seeking a Manager of Programs & Volunteer Services to oversee the Recreation and Volunteer Departments at the Rekai Centres Wellesley Central Place.


Brief Position Overview:
The Manager of Programs and Volunteer Services is responsible for:

  • Managing wholly or in part services which include: Recreation, Volunteers, Pastoral Care, Students, Community Relations, Palliative/End of Life Care
  • Planning, organization, implementation, evaluation and documentation of innovative programs based on established standards, bestpractice, policies and procedures
  • Maintaining ongoing communication with residents and their friends/families, including considerable attention and time spent responding to their questions and concerns
  • Recruitment/retention, orientation and ongoing training of departmental staff and volunteers including departmental counselling/coaching in areas of noncompliance
  • Participation in Quality Improvement programs
  • Participation in various committees including the Volunteer and Pastoral Care Committee, Palliative & Pain Committee, Quality Indicator Operations Team, Rainbow Wing Operations Committee, Family Council
  • Assistant to the Residents' Council, if applicable


The Life Enrichment Department at The Rekai Centres implements therapeutic recreation and leisure programs that target the social, emotional, cognitive, physical, and spiritual health domains.


The Life Enrichment Department provides guidance and direction to recreation volunteers and students in order to support all domains of health to our residents.

The Manager of Programs & Volunteer Services works in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team of professionals and exhibits sound professional judgment and initiative while working within the established philosophy, objectives, guidelines, legislations, policies and procedures, and the Mission, Vision and Strategic Directions of The Rekai Centres.


Main Responsibilities

  • Plans, coordinates, directs and monitors the effectiveness of all operational activities within the programs department.
  • Recruitment/retention and termination/firing of departmental staff and volunteers
  • Orientation and ongoing training and development of departmental staff and volunteers
  • Labour Management in relation to Collective Agreements, Labour Management Meetings, Staff Performance and Absenteeism
  • Monitors volunteer performance and absenteeism
  • Identifies educational needs of the department and makes provisions for education and continuing staff and volunteer development
  • Conducts regular performance appraisals on Life Enrichment staff
  • Establish and maintain relationships with various community partners
  • Develop departmental goals and objectives
  • Assist in facilitating the activities of the Residents' Council as required
  • Develops and maintains departmental annual operating budget
  • Manages the documentation systems and processes for quality and adherence of standards
  • Participates in quality improvement, strategic planning and accreditation activities
  • Reviews trends and takes the lead in changing practices, introducing new policies, programs, and services based on the identified trends and analysis
  • Participates in assigned committees and meetings as required (Scheduling, Agendas, Documenting and Distributing Minutes, Action Plans)
  • Ensures the Programs department is operated in compliance with the regulations within the Fixing Long Term Care Homes Act and responds to any citation identified by the Ministry of Health
  • Support specific Rekai Centres initiatives, including Emotion-Based Dementia Care & 2SLGBTQI+ Rainbow Wing
  • Ensures new programs/special events and outings are implemented on a regular basis
  • Plans, develops, finalizes, and shares Monthly Activity Calendar/Newsletter for distribution

Qualifications:


Required Education/Experience:


  • A community college recreation diploma or university degree in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, kinesiology or other related field from a community college or university and at least one (1) year experience in a health care setting.

Or must have held a program manager position at a different LTCH without meeting the updated qualifications set out in the Regulation, on the condition that the person has had (3) years full-time experience in the position during the (5) years immediately before being hired at the different LTCH or the equivalent part-time experience in the position during the (7) years
