An Employment Specialist/Counsellor must have the appropriate combination of education and occupational experience as follows:
Currently pursuing (or have completed) a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Counselling, Psychology, or a related field is preferred:
Certified as a Career Development Professional, or equivalent is a plus:
Related experience including providing career development, job search strategies, and counselling, preferably for adult learners:
Experience engaging with employers, understanding market trends and labor market information:
Excellent communication, collaboration, and consulting skills:
Ability to travel to work on-site or other locations as needed:
Demonstrated skills in assessment, intervention, and consultation:
Strong time management and organizational skills with the capacity to manage several clients simultaneously in a fast-paced environment:
Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and comfortable with using other digital tools for remote counselling:
Works closely with the management team and educational partners to implement strategies, projects, and tactics to address various barriers to employment:
Implements, promotes, and maintains Omnia Training's career-focused approach
The Roles and Responsibilities:
- Career assessments and development of personalized employment plans
- Develop and facilitate job readiness workshops and seminars
- Engage with local employers to establish partnerships and identify employment opportunities
- Provide referral to other resources or to external social services, medical, or community agencies when needed
- Provided support in resume writing, job interview preparation, and postemployment followups
- Participate in conferencing and provides individualized employment recommendations
- Work within a multidisciplinary team, liaising with other educational and employment professionals
- Participate in ongoing continuing education
- Attend meetings and workshops pertinent to work duties
- Other activities as required
Work conditions:
- Monday-Friday, 8:00am 5:00pm
- Wage is $20 an hour, fulltime contract during summer with the possibility of extension
- Target clients: young adults, new immigrants, adult learners
