The Elizabeth Fry Society of Greater Vancouver (EFry) is a charitable organization that supports women,
girls, and children at risk, involved in or affected by the justice system. Our programs work to break the
cycle of poverty, addiction, mental illness, homelessness, and crime.


We are recruiting a Temporary Full Time, Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) for our Sequoia at Firth Residence

Program. Located in Abbotsford, the Sequoia at Firth Residence Program serves women and gender
diverse people with severe and high-risk substance use dependency as a primary concern and who may
have co-occurring moderate mental health care needs. The average length of stay will be 3-months, or
longer when clinically indicated. The program is strengths-based, trauma-informed, culturally safe, and
concurrent disorder capable care delivered through evidence-based therapeutic interventions. The goal
of the program is to provide evidence-based psychosocial treatment, education, and support to reduce
problematic substance use, improve overall health and social wellbeing, and ultimately reduce the risk of
death due to overdoses and infections. The program will feature both stabilization and
therapeutic/treatment interventions.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Work collaboratively with the interprofessional team to provide tertiary care services to women
with substance dependence, concurrent disorder, and chronic disease.

  • Identify and monitor women's actual and potential strengths and limitations including psychosocial,
physiological, psychological, social-cultural, and spiritual needs.

  • Identifies own learning needs, reviews these with the Nursing Supervisor, or delegate, and engages
in a variety of activities to meet these needs.

  • Monitor the daytoday operations of residence to ensure quality control in adherence to licensing
regulation.


QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Current practicing registration as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the British Columbia College of
Nurses & Midwives (BCCNM).

  • Graduation from a recognized diploma program in Practical Nursing.
  • One (1) year of recent, related nursing experience in substance use and mental health care
setting, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

  • Knowledge of the diagnosis and treatment of substance dependence, behavioural, social emotional
and mental health/psychiatric problems in women and gender diverse people.

  • Demonstrated ability to participate as a member of an interdisciplinary care team, work
independently, and function as a nursing resource.

  • Demonstrated ability to adjust to unexpected events, problemsolve, and deal with conflict.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and prioritize work.
  • Experience working in a licensed facility is an asset.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.

ADDITIONAL JOB REQUIREMENTS:


  • Standard First Aid with CPR-C.
  • Evidence of COVID19 vaccination status.
  • Evidence of a Tuberculosis Test and compliance with the TB Control Program.
  • Doctor's Note of fitness required.
  • Enhanced Security Screening & satisfactory Criminal Record Review (Vulnerable Sector Search).
