    This position is hybrid Ottawa Ontario.

    Position Summary

    Thales is looking to hire a Senior Systems Engineer who will have a demonstrated record of leadership and excellence and will possess the ability to successfully complete new challenges in multidisciplinary, collaborative environments. The Senior Systems Engineer will be part of the Communication Systems Engineering team located in Ottawa, Canada and will provide system engineering support throughout the project execution cycle from specification and design, through development, integration, test and acceptance to integrate communication and mission systems on commercial and military platforms.

    Key Areas of Responsibility
    • Requirements elicitation and decomposition towards subsystem elements including subcontracted items.
    • Requirements derivation and development for subsystem elements;
    • Technical subcontract management including management of work scope and compliance of the (subcontractor) supplied solution.
    • Development of the preliminary and detailed designs for system and subsystem elements; Production of technical documentation to capture the system and subsystem designs including the architecture, interfaces and installation elements; Support the development of verification and validation artifacts including plans and procedures; Implementation and integration of the system and subsystem designs.
    • Resolution of technical issues arising during the implementation, integration and testing of the system and subsystem elements; and Support the installation and acceptance testing of the systems remotely or on customer site.
    Minimum Requirements
    • Familiarity with one or more shipboard communication systems on large vessels, such as: Digital Switching Matrix; Ship's Telephone System; Public Address and General Alarm; Self-Powered Telephone; and/or Flight Deck Communications.
    • University or College Degree in engineering, information systems or a related field;
    • 20+ years of professional experience in the design and integration of complex systems in the commercial and/or military domains;
    • Experience in any of the following areas would be considered an asset: Any communications experience such as radios, SATCOM, cryptos, telephony; Networking - security, routing, configuration; Electromagnetic Interference (EMI)/Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) (e.g. MIL-STD-461); Emanations Security (EMSEC); Cybersecurity Compliance Frameworks (e.g. NIST, ITSG-33).
    Physical Demands
    • Minimal lifting of test and electronic equipment, connecting equipment in a lab environment or job site (including onboard vehicle or vessel).
    • Full time, standard business hours. Hybrid role with some on-site work required in the lab.
