The Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA), Ontario is a provincial association, committed to improving services and support for individuals living with mental illnesses and addictions issues, and to the promotion of mental health in Ontario.


Job Summary


Under the supervision of the Director of Communications, this position will help in the planning, development and execution of communications strategies and tactics - with a specialized focus on digital strategy - to support programs and initiatives of CMHA Ontario and the organization's network of branches provincewide.

Among the key roles will be oversight and responsibility of CMHA Ontario's website and social media tools. Additionally, this position will provide additional departmental support in the development of materials for traditional communications channels.


Core Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development of strategic communications plans and execution of digital communications strategies for CMHA Ontario and branches.
  • Build and execute social media strategy through research, platform determination, benchmarking, messaging and audience identification.
  • Continually striving to enhance and improve impact, influence and reach among social audiences while adhering to existing social media policies.
  • Responsible for the management of CMHA Ontario's social media tools (Meta, Twitter, LinkedIn) including writing and editing content and creating appropriate accompanying visual elements.
  • Work closely with staff across the organization to conceive, plan and execute digital strategies as standalone campaigns or as support for broader CMHA Ontario or branch initiatives.
  • Using appropriate platform analytics tools, delivering regular reporting on social brand performance across platforms.
  • Work with a wide range of media, including images, streaming video, audio.
  • Help develop and maintain technical resources for social media and provide training and support to staff and branches on aspects of digital media.
  • Conceive, write, edit, or assign clearly articulated content for the CMHA Ontario's website.
  • Overseeing organizational partners in the creation and editing of content for CMHA Ontario's biweekly newsletter, Mental Health Notes.

Skills & Experience

  • University degree in a relevant field. Preference will be given to those with a Master's level postsecondary education in a relevant field.
  • 35 years' work experience in a communications and social media environment, managing, writing, and editing content for various communications and digital platform. Preference will be given to those with communications, public relations, or journalism experience.
  • Strong project management skills and proven success with analyzing data, drawing accurate conclusions and adjusting strategy accordingly.
  • The ability to flourish with mínimal guidance, be proactive and to handle uncertainty, ambiguity and the challenge of quickly evolving goals.
  • Capacity to collaborate across teams.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint.
  • Proficiency with graphic design software such as Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator.
  • Bilingualism in French and knowledge of Ontario's mental health and addictions sector an asset.

Working Conditions
This is a full-time, permanent position working standard office hours (currently 35 hours/week). This position is based in Toronto, Ontario.

We are currently operating within a hybrid model, with colleagues working from the office 3 days/week and from home 2 days/week.


This position is also a desk job with extended periods of sitting, reading, telephone interaction, and working at the computer.

This position involves some moderate lifting, shipping, and handling.

Attendance at various meetings throughout the workday/workweek will be required; meetings may occur on short notice, depending on the circumstances.

This position is within the OPSEU Bargaining Unit.


Salary Range:
$78,761.85 to $81,106.68 per annum
