The Opportunity:


The City of Red Deer is currently recruiting for a
Parks Labourer - Infrastructure & Waskasoo Park Services to fill a permanent full-time position.

They will be responsible to perform various labour, construction, carpentry and equipment operation duties in city parks, playgrounds, trails, and outdoor winter facilities.

This position will also provide guidance to the Parks Labourers I as required.

  • Grade 10 or equivalent.
  • 1 1/2 years' experience in labour, carpentry, and equipment operation preferably on the job as a junior labourer or equivalent.
  • Basic understanding of current CSA Play Structure Guidelines as well as the Standards established by the City and a basic understanding of layout, construction, and installation for playgrounds, multicourts, site furniture, trails, bridges, boardwalks, stairs, fences, and retaining walls.
  • Valid Alberta Driver's License.
  • Ability to operate, maintain and repair related small, motorized equipment (e.g. spraying machines, ice edger, pressure washer, various saws and woodworking tools) and use a variety of standard gardening, construction and labouring tools.
  • Ability to cooperate with colleagues as a team to understand and follow instructions and to provide guidance as required to Parks Labourers I and to follow plans/schematic drawings.
  • Ability to exert high levels of physical effort under adverse conditions (e.g. log lifting, playground development, rink boards, digging) and to work in fatiguing positions (e.g. kneeling, bending, lifting).
  • Ability to work outside in all types of weather and in conditions which may be muddy, dirty, wet/slippery, extreme heat/sun or cold.
  • Ability to exercise care and to follow safety procedures (e.g. working near power lines, traffic and the public working with small engines).
  • Ability to complete jobs relatively unsupervised, as well as keeping daily reports.

Remuneration:

$31.69 to $33.36 per hour


Hours of Work:

80 hours biweekly; Monday to Friday, may require some shift work or evening and weekend work when needed.
