Position Overview

Working as a member of the Health Information Services team, the incumbent is responsible to perform a variet of tasks related to health information including but not limited to patient/client registration, creating and maintaining the patient/client health record, filing, record retention and destruction and release of personal health information for ongoing care.

Experience

One year experience in a Health Information Services Department required within the last two years

One year experience in a Medical Office required within the last two years

Experience working with both electroinc and paper health records preferred

A combination of education and experience may be considered

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

Complete high school education, Manitoba standards required

Successful completion of a recognized Medical/Surgical Office Assistant diploma required

Successful completion of a recognized Health Information Management program perferred

Certification/Licensure/Registration

Qualifications and Skills

Typing/keyboarding skills (minimum 30 wpm) required

Medical terminology (75% pass) required

Operational knowledge of computer terminals required

Good command of English (oral and written) required

Good interperonsal communication skills required

Problem solves and exercises judgement for decision making within the scope of the job description

Good understanding of the Mental Health Act and Personal Health Information Act

Ensures security of patient/client health records and personal health information within the department

Physical Requirements

Prolonged sitting

Standing, walking, stairs, bending, reaching above head, lifting/moving patient records and boxes upto 30 lbs

Must be able to deal with the public, patients/clients, coworkers, health care professionals, managers in a courteous, respectful and confidential manner

Work environment consists of frequent interruptions

Must be able to review documents electronically via a computer monitor screen for prolonged periods

Working as part of a team

Working alone

No natural light

Adheres to all safety and health policies, regulations ans safe work practices

May be required to travel throughout the service area requiring a valid Manitoba driver's license and use of a personal motor vehicle

This term position may end earlier as outlined in your collective agreement.
