Your role on our team:
While reporting to the Manager of GST/HST, this role will be also taking direction from the Manager of property tax, and time will be split equally between the property and GST/HST tax functions.
As a HST and Property Tax Technician, you will be responsible for the helping ensure compliance with the Goods and Services Tax/Harmonized Sales Tax (GST/HST) and Property Tax for all Minto business units across Canada.
In this role, you will:
GST/HST
- Reconcile GST/HST accounts with amounts remitted and outstanding
- Track returns filed
- Prepare cheque requisitions and GST/HST reporting checklists
- Reconcile GST/HST rebate accounts
- Assist in providing information for GST/HST audits and reviews conducted by tax authorities
- Communicate any required information to the Canada Revenue Agency relating to GST/HST reporting and remittances
- Maintain GST/HST process documentation
- Open and distribute all mail received from tax authorities
- Recordsmanagement and filing
- Make bank payments at branches
Property Tax
- Data entry and processing for timely payment of a large volume of property tax bills
- Maintain property tax information system, including entry of the property tax bill and assessed value information and setup of new roll numbers
- Prepare property tax adjustments for inclusion in the Statement of Adjustments for each new home sale
- Respond to internal requests for property tax information by extracting and validating information from property tax information system
- Maintain property tax process documentation
- Recordsmanagement and filing
We would like you to have:
- College Diploma in a business-related field (e.g. commerce, accounting, business administration) or proven experience in an accounting environment, or university degree in any discipline.
- Minimum of 2 years of recent accounting/bookkeeping
- Strong attention to detail, with the ability to complete work within established timelines
- Strong analytical and problemsolving skills
- Effective interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills
- Intermediate Excel skills
- High degree of integrity including ability to successfully deal with sensitive or confidential information
- Ability to work independently
- Experience with Yardi and Newstar is considered an asset
- Position requires being in the office at least part of the time (minimum 2 days a week) and full time (5 days a week) at certain times of year
